Forums - Gaming Discussion - Another form of proof that GameTrailers is not neutral

GT's comparison videos are useless IMHO.

If you are to compare the same game on 2 different platforms, then you need to show all the elements of the game that you can. Although you can't effectively show the differences in audio, what you can do is show the differences in graphics, framerate and loading of the game.

All of GT's 360/PS3 comparison videos show the PS3 version washed out compared to the 360, this is solely down to the settings of the video output. You either make comparisons based on the best available options for both the PS3 and 360 or the basic options for the PS3 and 360.

In the case of the best available and the basic options, the PS3 covers all these options in one unit with HDMI ouptut and hard drive, where as the 360 Core unit does not include HDMI or a hard disk drive, so should show the difference in loads times.

So, it's pretty plain to see that GT and any other comparison site's videos should utilise the best available videos for both to show the differences.

The PS3 doesn't include HDMI on the box, neither component, just composite.

So out of the box, the PS3 has a worste set up compared to the Xbox 360, which comes with component, composite and HDMI if you buy the ELITE version.

All 360's currently being produced have HDMI out, don't they?

Also, it seems that some people around here think WAY too much of HDMI when comparing it with component. The difference in video quality is negligible; the main advantage that HDMI currently offers is improved convenience, not improved quality.

The video comparisons on these sites suck, i play on a SDTV and my games look better then what they show on their site, i have played around with the settings and i get a great picture.

In one of the threads on GT a poster took blown up pics of the video and from what he and a bunch of others said it looks like the PS3 video is being taken from a bigger source and downgraded so the quality is even worse, this is very clear in the pic he showed compared to the 360 version.

One of the posters also showed some pics of the PS3 with full RGB on and off, here on the pics.

EDIT: One other thing that proves that GT is run by a bunch of retards, they said you need a $5000 computer to run Crysis, after weeks of trying to fix their computer.

Even if you bought an HDMI cable for the PS3, you still couldn't record the gameplay, so its irrelevant.

I still want someone to explain this to me: how is using the standard setup for both consoles unfair?

It's not the standard setup?  It doesn't show difference in loadtimes, so it could be using a 360 Elite compared to the PS3.

What about this isn't the standard, out-of-the-box setup for these two machines?

I think as has been pointed out before (by sieanr possibly) the real issue is tv calibration. However gametrailers capture video, needs to be properly calibrated. If you're going to switch between limited and full rgb range then you need to adjust the tv settings. Most people don't do this and jump to the OMFG LIMITED IS TEH SUX conclusion. If you set to RGB full when you have a limited device you will get crushed blacks and lose shadow detail but have slightly better looking other colors.

Yes

I couldn't be bothered to read all the fanboy bickering, but it is quite clear to me, having played PS360 on numerous different set-ups, that GT comparison videos are biased, whether by accident or design, in favour of the 360.

This is not the stuff that conspiracy theories are made of. I have never seen any game on any PS3 on any TV that looks as washed out as those on GT comparison videos. Maybe they receive greater revenues from MS adverts, or maybe they're just too stupid to correctly set-up their video capture cards. In either case, they should not be making comparison videos that are intended solely for the purpose of influencing members of the public.

It is irrelevant if they use the same equipment for PS3 as they do for 360 if that equipment favours one over the other (as it does in this case). If their set-up favoured the PS3 over the 360 it would be just as bogus. Optimal settings should be used for both.

Alot of people are saying that it's good that they keep them the way they are out the box, and not optimizing them to their best settings.

Thing is though, technically, the PS3s standard setting are only over composite cables, which means only 480p, whereas 360 comes with component, so it's HD, standard-out-of-the-box whch they seem to put so much emphasis on. So that's definately not fair. Also, what's wrong with putting both systems on HDMI? As long as the means by which the signal is being output to the tv are equal, then I see no problem in them putting the PS3 and 360 on HDMI. But then, due to optimization settings, it would show the PS3 would have better gfx.....are they afraid to show that?

-edit

Lol, i find it funny when i go to GT and i watch comparisons and all i see is PS3 fans whining, or the people who say the ps3 looks better and it looks utterly shit, oh well.
