Some people ignore math.

Assume 360 sells the same amount in 2008 and 2009 as 2007.  That brings total to about 32 million consoles sold at the end of 2009.  For the PS3 to hit that amount it would need to outsell the 360 by 70,000 per week. In other words not likely.

I think it will take a while. Earliest, late 2009.

I think we may see the two very close at the end of 08, if you think about it, the PS3 sold almost exactly the same amount as the 360 in its first year, and you may think oh no big deal, but when you consider that the 360 was the only Next Gen console for a entire year, and the PS3 did as good as it with 2 competitors, the PS3 did killer.

 Anways, with HD DVD out the door I believe alot of people will be turning to the PS3 as a BD Player, and with a great line up of games coming out this year, that should boost sales as well. Look at most peoples predictions, alot are thinking the PS3 and 360 will be very close, I on the other hand would estimate the 360 at 20-21 and the PS3 around 17-19, so in any case I predict a great year for the PS3 but am unsure about 360 sales, we could see the PS3 close the gap almost completely for leave a 4 million gap. Only time will tell.

The 360 will start to decline in sales in 2009, and the PS3 will keep on increasing until the beginning of 2011.

OMG with all the exclusives coming out on PS3 it might pass the 360 by March of this year!!! Seriously big shows like E3 will tell you a lot. I don't think anyone can make an educated prediction until both companies lay their cards out on the table, I'd say by June or so of this year we'll know if Sony is able to put out enough steam to push the PS3 pass the 360 by 09. I seriously doubt it but Microsoft could drop the bomb and not announce anything special. Doubt it though.

Based on the information known so far (knowing nothing about E3 or surprise announcements), I would say 2 years, if it does. I think it's fair to say that the 360 will sell on average 7 million per year (more if they get the Arcade down to the magic $199) Sony will definitely do much better next year than they did this year, but we have no idea what MS will do.

Ok, gap is 7 mln.
With FFXIII, GT5, MGS4, DMC4, WKS in 2008 ps3 will have lead over x360 in Japan by 3 mln. or on average 60k weekly.

With same games + Resistance2, KZ2, GTA4, LBP ps3 will have lead over x360 in Europe atleast by 2 mln. or 40k weekly.
Last week lead was 30k, this week only 7k, but PSs3 till has whole year, and by Christmas the lead will be much more, then 40k.
So, 2 mln. lead in worst case and 3 mln. lead in best case for europe.

Then all what ps3 need is 1 mln. lead of x360 2008 usa sales. Otselling x360 by 20k weekly is real, when BIG ps3 games will come.

So yes, by the end of 2008.

Even if all those great (supposedly) came out next week the PS3 wouldnt outsell the 360 by those margins.

Most of those games if they hit in 2008 will be in the 4th quarter. It is a very good bet that through the first 9 months of 2008 the PS3 will trim next to nothing from the 360's lead.
