Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo explains why core gameplay can't change in 2D Mario games

I am totally fine with this.

People think Nintendo does not care, but it's mind blowing the amount of work they put in those games

Every single stage has a thing unique to it. We're talking about 80 different "things" here. Most of them highlighting the fun aspect of the gameplay.

While they absolutely should not mess with the tired and true formula that everyone loves, they could mix things up a bit... how about a NSMB with Princess Toadstool as a playable character complete with her "hover jump" ability from SMB2 USA? Sure beats saving that dumb whore's ass for the 1,000th time.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it

Nintendo and PC gamer

It's simple, fun and addictive, so there's no need to change.

It doesnt need to change, just take my money already.

Are you saying that you would have preferred the N64 version to never have had changed to 3D?

Sure, I like it more than Super Mario Sunshine.

Also Super mario 64 is considered to be the first 3D mario game just to let you know incase you have forgotten ;p.

I think he meant, instead of 3D Mario, it stayed to 2D Mario, meaning never change Mario from his 2D origins.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

It's perfect, why would they change it? I really want it out already, that's the most played game in my Wii (Metroid Prime 3 comes next)!!

I see no issue with this.

For those who wanted significant change, they gave the 3D Marios.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I see no problem with this.

Each game is similar and vastly different. Its the reason SMB has always been the top of the gaming world.

Like everyone else has said it doesn't really need to change. Regardless there's kinds of Mario games you can play if you wan't a different experience with the same franchise.
