I thought E3 already was open to the public. Wasn't that the change from the "slimmed down" test E3?

I believe it's somewhat open but you still have to be involved with the industry in some cursory manner like work at a gamestop or something.  And then there's the exhorbant price for tickets if you arne't getting them free as media.

Like $100 or what?

Perhaps they should also consider finding a different channel for E3 coverage. Yet, I don't think they really have any alternatives for live HD coverage.

This is just based off of memory, but I recall the number being closer to 800 than 100.

edit:  What I can find says that it was definitely 400 bucks in 2011, but I swear they doubled it this year.

...

E3 died when Metal Gear Solid 4 released. Probably the last game that gave a new trailer for every year of development. Now games are announced a month before they're released.

Fingers crossed for Chicago :p

Wow. Kinda cool though that gaming can be attractive like that.

Wasn't E3 a grass roots show way back when it started? Like 100K visitors for a small entrance fee?

You have been to E3 Torillian as a VGC representative, haven't you?

Not sure, never looked into the origins of E3.

I go every year for the past 3 years as a member of the media so I don't have to pay for the pass.  Otherwise I probably couldn't afford it.

When I went before they slimmed down (2006) it was $600. (It is even worst if you go to GDC and can not get a student pass.)

In my opinion E3 needs to go away and every developer needs to have their own conference instead
Lots of space for them to do whatever they want

PLEASE be NY!
