Super Nes vs. Sega Genesis - Can't really think of anything topping those two. I recall going to school and people giving me lip over not having a Super Nintendo and just having a Genesis, and I gave them lip for not appreciating the Genesis titles. There were fanboy wars at my school before the term fanboy went viral. I was definitely a Sega Genesis fanboy before I was able to afford multiple consoles.

This post wins. Not just because I cracked up reading it, but because I share similar feelings. I hated Sega until Dreamcast released, partly becaues it was clear at that point that Sega was no longer a threat and that Sony was now the real enemy, and partly because it was IMO, their greatest console. A shame it had to also be their last.

i liked Sonic more than Mario back then, but i was a Nintendo kid, pretty weird...

Xbox 360 vs. Playstation 3

For once, the only console war serve to satisfy most of the extreme nationalistic fans who are hell bend to ruin the other image in their respective country. These people are more contented with sales and reviews of their preferred consoles, rather than their gaming experience.

I did feel funny buying a Nintendo Wii. After being a snooty PC gamer and feelin' sorry for the lost little $99 Game Cubes at a forgotten shelf in the store.

Nice topic, but still can't decide betwen 360 vs PS3 or Snes vs Genesis.

Another thing I can throw out there was that when Playstation hit the market there was a huge rise in cazers(casual gamers) so SNES vs GEN was like the Last Stand of the "hardcore crowds" if you will. I mean to 80% of the world (madde up stat :^)) "games were for kids and nerds" and the maddenites were in their infancy, so the fanbases were a lot more rabbid from what I see.

In Leiu of what others have mentioned, I see that this gen was much more heated when the console prices were double, and multi-console ownership was not as feesable for most people. Now well the effects of buyers remorse are much more easilly washed away.

I never owned the sega cd, heard the only decent game was eternal champions: challenge from the darkside, but I loved my mega drive so many great memories, can't believe my mum made me sell it to afford the purchase of my ps1 :/

Sega Saturn released November 1994, N64 June 1996. Think about that. the gap looks big now, that we know lifetime-sales. how looked the sales-race, as the war was ongoing? Yes, one of the contenders won the war and conquered the land of the loser. But at a long time in this war, the winner wasn't clear.

Think, how would look the sales for X360 and PS3, if Microsoft releases Durango at the same time Nintendo the WiiU, while Sony comes out with the PS4 mid 2014. Also, the race of X360 vs. PS3 is not so interesting, as it goes about second place.
