No. Wii did fail. It can't compete in the long run with PS360, and it's already leagues behind in software sales and quality.

What I mean is there basically making the same console as last gen, that same console that has failed in the second half of the seventh gen, not something exciting to think about.

Wii was a blue ocean. The pad controller is not blue ocean. Nintendo is going for a low cost strategy this time. Low costs usually mean sub par features
