Forums - Microsoft - Did Microsoft just make Nintendo's Wii U tablet irrevelant?

Also, simple question for everyone, can smartglass do what ZombiU does? No.

So technologically speaking, the WiiU pad is much more interesting than smartglass. I won't say that smartglass is uninteresting, but the WiiU pad uses bluetooth tech, while smartglass is done over the internet, so there is a much higher latency there.

From a marketing perspective, the WiiU pad will benefit from MS' advertisement push as PSWii60 mentioned, also Nintendo dominates Microsoft in the casual market, by a landslide, so it's a no-contest.

wii u is like ds

smart glass is like espn

While I am not convinced that it makes WiiU irrelevant (Buttons go a LONG way), I do not understand the argument of "Well, people need to buy a 360 AND a phone/tablet".

Who at this point DOES NOT have a tablet, let a lone a smartphone? If you own a 360, you can almost no doubt use this new feature out of the box. Plus most phones have ~4" screen, so not too much lost out to the WiiU and it's 5".

Still, no physical buttons, so the uses are quite limited.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

True the uses are limited, but it could do a lot of what I saw at E3 assuming that the latency was good enough.  Rayman Legends had the coolest multiplayer adaptation of the Wii U Asymmetrical gameplay but since the person helping Rayman is playing with the Wii U screen as just a touch screen it'd be no problem to do the same thing with Smart Glass.  The only things I think Smart Glass couldn't really replicate to one degree or another are games where you quickly switch between the buttons and the touch screen, like Batman AA AE, but most of those functions just take the place of a pause screen so I don't consider them that meaninful.

Obviously it doesn't make the tablet irrelevant, but the idea that it can't possibly do what the Wii U tablet does is a bit fillacious since it seems to be able to replicate to one degree or another most of the Wii U functionality we saw at the show.  It more than likely won't end up quite as comfortable or convenient at most of them though.

Oh I agree it definitely has it's uses. I for one see no reason why it can't do a lot of the things we saw. WiiU tablet's uses were mainly touch only, so no biggy having a tablet sitting on your lap while your game with a controller and taking one hand off to tap the thing that just sits there you know?

Well those types of games would be combersome, but a decent number of the Wii U tablet uses were completely touch only for one player in multiplayer so that could easily be passed on to a tough screen on a phone without issue, again assuming that the latency allowed it.  Other uses were as a map or a better pause screen which like you mention would be more combersome but would still be doable.  I don't think I saw any use of Wii U where buttons and touch screen use were interchanged so quickly that it couldn't be done like you mention.  I'll have to read up on Zombi U though, perhaps that's one example.

Did you not see Nintendo's E3?? It was a disaster and I thought wonderbook was terrible and boring....then I wasted over an hour watching Nintendo's conference.

In the next Fallout we can all use our very own Pipboy3000. Just need your phone/tablet and some rubberbands.

I would probably just do that for any game that makes use of it.

there are many reasons i don't think smart glass makes the wii u tablet irrelevant, but one reason is the wii u tablet is made strictly for gaming--with a d-pad, analog sticks, buttons, etc--while regular tablets are missing these things.
