Forums - Nintendo - Miracles can happen (or why the 3DS is going to be just fine)

Until very recently, I've been the only person in my group of friends to own a 3DS - although we all owned, and loved, playing DS, they didn't consider the 3DS to be worth the purchase when they could spend time playing with their 360s instead.

I didn't particularly mind - I've got a large number of VGChartz members on my friends list that made up for it, but I couldn't help but feel that there was something missing from my 3DS adventures- my friends.

But something happened - news of Fire Emblem and Kingdom Hearts managed to get one of my friends to buy a 3DS - and it looks like the others might follow within the year. I've already played Mario Kart 7 against him, and everything suddenly seemed great again- like the balance had been restored.

The moral of the story? I have no idea; but I feel like my 3DS has just gained so much more value simply by having a real-life friend to play with and talk about it with- it's awesome :)

So I guess this thread could be to discuss how the 3DS is recieved among the people you know, or just about the value of friendship in general :)

No one owns one in my town.... D: *tear*

EDIT: I'm exaggerating. There is at least 60'000 people that live here so one of them is bound to have a 3DS, too.

Yeah, I don't have a single streetpass on my 3DS

Switch!!!

I'm actually quite surprised that no-one in my friendship group has bought a 3DS, not quite sure why. Perhaps we're just getting old :(

None of my friends have a 3DS, but considering how I have so few of them, Nintendo's penetration of our little social group is impressive.

It's outsold the DS' first year, if anything it's doing better than it should be. It sells the most units worldwide every week as of late purely on the brand power of Mario. I have 3 friends who also own a 3ds and they only own Mario kart 7 and SM3DL. So yes it will be fine.

Haven't touched mine since February, I am waiting until Fire Emblem and KH DDD come out so then I won't put the thing down for a while. I'm a sucker for rhythm games that don't need an extra peripheral, so I might try Rhythm Thief and that FF game until then.

I live far away from just about all of my friends, so gaming is normally something that brings us together. But the 3DS isn't appealing to me, even though I used to own an original DS (the fat gray one) until a couple years ago. It's easier for me to use a PS3 to connect with certain friends, or a X360 for others. I'm hoping that the Wii U will fill in that gap, but I have no idea if my friends or I will be getting that one. We'll see how well Nintendo handles online this time around. I felt burned by the original Wii, as there was virtually no online to bring my friends and I together.

none of my friends yet have a 3DS, but gaming isn't usually the commonality i share with my irl friends (or at least similar tastes in gaming)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
