Forums - Gaming - Tomb Raider reboot delayed into 2013, new screen

I believe the new Tomb Raider will be bad. First Uncharted copied and dumbed down Tomb Raider to make a Hollywood-like cinematic game easy for the masses, now Tomb Raider has to become even more cinematic and simplified to compete with Uncharted.

Tomb Raider Underworld wasn't a great game but its gameplay mechanics were old-school and hardcore with difficult jumping and puzzles, unlike Uncharted.

I thought they were going in the opposite direction. I remember reading somewhere this one was going to be open-world.

I actually quite enjoyed Underworld too. Only the camera angles annoyed me slightly.

Interesting. I didn't know people went as far as to use Uncharted as an example of pure gameplay lol.

I am happy there's still people on VGC who like to discuss games, not just all that stuff surrounding gaming (sales, Metacritic, graphics, console makers, hype of upcoming games etc).

I have Enslaved on my back-logue. Thanks to you I bought it (and Hunted too, I actually ended up liking that game!), albeit from the bargain bin.

Oh, they did.  Somebody called Uncharted a jack of all trades and a master of none, once.  People came in to defend it saying that it was actually the best in the genre when it came to platforming and third person shooting.  I'm almost positive that somebody said it did platforming better than Super Mario!  This was before Uncharted 3, though.

Changing subjects, I'd give Hunted a 7/10 (but I still completed it multiple times--really enjoyed it despite its flaws) and I've give Enslaved an 8/10 (though I played it MANY times through--currently doing a 3D playthrough and then I'll give the DLC a try.  Got distracted by some big 2012 releases, though.).  I'm sure you'll enjoy it.  Just enjoy it for what it is and don't compare it to certain other games.  I think you'll find that it's actually one of the gen's best overlooked treasures.

I guess I've derailed this thread enough.  The subject at hand is Tomb Raider being delayed.  When I saw the gameplay back at E3 last year, I felt that it was one of the absolute best games I had ever seen, graphically.  It had a really good atmosphere, too.  I thought that if they released it during the holidays, it had the potential to blow a lot of people away.  Now, we won't get the game until 2013.  The game will still be great (I hope) but like many games that stay in the oven too long (ie; Alan Wake), it runs the risk of being trumped by games that began development later but got released earlier.  By the time we get this game, the Wii U will be on the market and in full force.  It's going to hurt this game a little if it can't turn heads.  People that thought it looked great last year won't be so easily impressed next year.

That's funny. Did platforming better than Mario...

That's what I did with Hunted, I enjoyed it for what it is. I'll do the same with Enslaved. Btw, how do you play Enslaved in 3D?

They can do a lot with Tomb Raider and especially as they've put her stranded on an island. If they are bold and keep the game hardcore instead of constantly handholding the gamer, keep the difficult platform jumping true to Tomb Raider and add some exploration and survival elements, the game could become a masterpiece. But as I said, it's probably much more tempting to makeit into an interactive movie, a game that plays by itself á la Assassin's Creed/Uncharted.
(for the record, while I'd describe both more as interactive movies rather than games, I adore Assassin's Creed but dislike Uncharted, so I'm a little bit of a hypocrite).

Yeah, some open world-ish elements I believe they have promised (which I am very happy for). But open world can still be made with lots of hand-holding and guiding, if they want to, to make the game "more accessible".

I didn't mean that Tomb Raider Underworld was a mediocre game when I said "not great". It was a good, solid game, no doubt. The typical Tomb Raider gameplay mechanics were great and the environments were nice. It just wasn't memorable to me, so that's why it's not in the "great" category.

Another way to look at this is there will at least be something to look forward to in 2013 for current consoles. Let's not forget Bioshock too.

You have to get the "Pigsy's Perfect 10" DLC.  It upgrades the whole game to 3D capable.  I tried it and it looks pretty good!  I want to play through the campaign in 3D before jumping on the new stages, though.  Maybe that's what I'll do today.  I bought a 3D TV earlier this year so I started stacking up on 3D content.  I want to replay Batman Arkham City, Enslaved, Uncharted 3, and Gears of War 3 all in glorious 3D.  Just haven't gotten around to it, yet.  I keep buying newer games and it makes it hard to go back to the older games.

Haha, that was me! Not the platforming part though. Just the shooting though. I still think Uncharted 2 has the best shooting in a third person shooter. It can be argued that Gears of War is better, but I think the two games is two different to declare an objective victor.

I've got a question. Can you see your own sig?

Nah, I have sigs disabled. I'm assuming there's something wrong with it since you ask. There's something wrong with it, isn't there? I guess this would explain D21Lewis's reaction when I told him to look at my sig.

im getting worried that South Part might get delayed, that is easily my most anticipated game, now that BIoshock got pushed back. Oh well, still need to buy ME 3 and ToGf

BTW this is one Uncharted fan that likes Enslaved, good game

Friend, either you're badly trolling or making a bad joke..
