Forums - Gaming - Tomb Raider reboot delayed into 2013, new screen

1...2...3 Another one bites the dust.

I swear this is going to be sequel mania and snoresville in gaming if a few new IPs are not announced at E3 this year.

oh hell no. Enslaved was a great concept executed EXTREMELY poorly. Horrible horrible game. I gave up half way through the game since how bad it was. And nope Uncharted have much more freedom compared to Enslaved. The issue with Enslaved and it's bad game design is that they provide you with an open area but make you follow a certain path. It gets extremely boring and annoying. Combat was mediocre at best as well. Graphics were nice tho, I loved the landscape used. I hope someday some other competant team will pick up the IP and make good use of it. This game was one of the if not THE biggest let down for me this gen. I went in with a lot of expectations :(

I believe the new Tomb Raider will be bad. First Uncharted copied and dumbed down Tomb Raider to make a Hollywood-like cinematic game easy for the masses, now Tomb Raider has to become even more cinematic and simplified to compete with Uncharted.

Tomb Raider Underworld wasn't a great game but its gameplay mechanics were old-school and hardcore with difficult jumping and puzzles, unlike Uncharted.

I still think Tomb Raider Underworld was a great game despite some flaws with the story and boss fights (there weren't any!).  Aside from that, I loved the game and replayed it on every difficulty level.  I would have had all of the Achievements but they just stopped unlocking for some reason--even when I started the whole game over.  Tomb Raider is pure.   Glitchy, though.

Uncharted has all of the fans, now.  And this is where I go off subject.  I remember being in love with the game, Enslaved.  I eventually got my hands on the demo and I loved it, too.  I recommended it to people of games like Uncharted because of its presentation and gameplay.  Those Uncharted fans attacked me like I was a baby dipped in honey and they were grizzly bears.  One of their biggest complaints was that, in Enslaved, when you were climbing, you could only go where the game wanted you to go.  It wasn't pure gameplay like Uncharted.  Now, look at Uncharted.  When you're climbing and jumping, 95% of the time, you can't go anywhere but where the game wants you to go.  I once had to reset Golden Abyss because the rope I wanted to climb glitched out and I couldn't even kill myself!  Couldn't jump off of a ledge, couldn't let go of the rock I climbed.  Couldn't even climb over a block that was just as high as the ones Drake normally climbed.  NOBODY complains about that.

Double standards ftw.

Interesting. I didn't know people went as far as to use Uncharted as an example of pure gameplay lol.

I am happy there's still people on VGC who like to discuss games, not just all that stuff surrounding gaming (sales, Metacritic, graphics, console makers, hype of upcoming games etc).

I have Enslaved on my back-logue. Thanks to you I bought it (and Hunted too, I actually ended up liking that game!), albeit from the bargain bin.

damn was looking forward to this. ps. if anybody hasnt already done so the tomb raider triligoy is a must have, 3 great games in 1 pack

Oh, they did.  Somebody called Uncharted a jack of all trades and a master of none, once.  People came in to defend it saying that it was actually the best in the genre when it came to platforming and third person shooting.  I'm almost positive that somebody said it did platforming better than Super Mario!  This was before Uncharted 3, though.

Changing subjects, I'd give Hunted a 7/10 (but I still completed it multiple times--really enjoyed it despite its flaws) and I've give Enslaved an 8/10 (though I played it MANY times through--currently doing a 3D playthrough and then I'll give the DLC a try.  Got distracted by some big 2012 releases, though.).  I'm sure you'll enjoy it.  Just enjoy it for what it is and don't compare it to certain other games.  I think you'll find that it's actually one of the gen's best overlooked treasures.

I guess I've derailed this thread enough.  The subject at hand is Tomb Raider being delayed.  When I saw the gameplay back at E3 last year, I felt that it was one of the absolute best games I had ever seen, graphically.  It had a really good atmosphere, too.  I thought that if they released it during the holidays, it had the potential to blow a lot of people away.  Now, we won't get the game until 2013.  The game will still be great (I hope) but like many games that stay in the oven too long (ie; Alan Wake), it runs the risk of being trumped by games that began development later but got released earlier.  By the time we get this game, the Wii U will be on the market and in full force.  It's going to hurt this game a little if it can't turn heads.  People that thought it looked great last year won't be so easily impressed next year.

What exactly will be worth buying this year? Looks like we're getting close to a generation's end...
