It's been over 10 years since the whole Harry Potter craze started on films and the whole time I thought it was stupid and had no interest in it. Now I'm 23 and checking out a lot of movies lately and thought to myself, there's eight movies and each movie sells pretty well a billion each time and everyone loves it it has such high reviews and I actually like the whole magic and wizards thing so maybe I'll give it a try.

So going into Philosopher's Stone I didn't really have high hopes especially when the main character is 11. I figured maybe later on in the series when everyones older it'll get better. In the end of the film I thought it was good but like I thought it was a little childish and CGI sucked..but it was 2001. The whole story around Voldomort seems like it can get interesting.

I'm expecting more out of the second film and I'm hoping it'll be much better. But it was a good introduction to the Harry Potter world.

I'll update after I watch chamber of secrets.

Ignore the comments, watch the movie,s and decide for yourself which you like best or worse.

Then, do yourself a favor and read the books.

I liked all the books, mostly because after Chamber of Secrets the books start getting too big to fit the movie and a lot of story is lost.   When you're done it'll be interesting to get your perspective.

Funny thing is I think PoA is the worst movie and the best book of the series. I know not many people agree. I'm not saying PoA is a bad movie, but it's the one I liked the least.

I have a hard time deciding between PoA and DH in terms of my favourite of the books. With the films I think PoA was the turnaround point: it's not a great film, but it's enjoyable in general and the kids acting, while still not good, is no longer atrocious as it is in the first two films.

Books: DH/PoA > OotP > HBP/GoF > PS > CoS

Films: DH1 > HBP > GoF > OotP > DH2 > PoA > PS > CoS

As I may have mentioned earlier in this thread... I don't understand why the CoS film is so damn long (longest film for the shortest book) yet OotP is the shortest film for the longest book... particularly when there were plenty of things in the book that could have been cut out with no impact on the storyline, yet for some reason were taking up valuable screen time (e.g. Grawp)

I'm one of those weird people who thinks that the movies got progressively worse starting with the third one. The first two were decent, but child actors... eh. The third one, I hated all the stupid changes they made from the first two to the third one that served no purpose whatsoever. Also, I detest Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. That's actually probably the single biggest reason why I don't like any of the later movies as much.

The fourth and fifth ones I tolerated mainly for the still decent soundtracks (though not on the level of the first three), and the sorta fun action.

I have very little good to say about the last three movies. The soundtracks are bland and uninspiring, the movies were dull, and I will never be able to get past the stupid slow music being played during the final battle in the last movie. It made me want to fall asleep. Also, Harry and Hermione dancing was retarded and pissed me off.

Am I a bitter fan who was angry at the movies not being more like the books? Sorta. The movies weren't too terrible as far as adapting the books go. There were plenty of changes, but a lot of them made at least some sense. Some changes did bother me, I'll admit. But the real reason why I'm so harsh on them is because they had the potential to be great, and I left the theater disappointed each time. Still, they got my money because I foolishly held hope to the very end that the next movie would be great.

Harry and Hermione dancing was indeed a stupid, confusing and superfluous scene.

True the acting became much better, but it didn't have that magical feeling the first two had.
