Forums - Nintendo - Iwata can’t promise “overwhelmingly rich” Wii U launch titles, proposals for evergreen titles

Well. I'm guessing the VGC Article got it all wrong then. (The one right beside your thread.)

I understand, you can't do everything (despite playstation ads claims) but as long as there are at least 4 strong first party titles for the first 6 months of the console's lifespan it will be ok, of course if the 3rd party support goes as planed.

Pretty honest from then. But honesty wont be enough....Anyway they look like learned their lessons so people can expect some surprises, maybe not for dayone but for launch window.

Iwata is full of win. His quoting Yamauchi was Epic.

I think that Nintendo should have been working on creating additional internal development teams to create the software necessary for the launch of the Wii U. Having the same Mario team, Zelda team, etc., working on both console and hand held games limits what they can put out. This also limits these teams from creating new IPs since they have to jump back and forth between the two.

They've been doing that WiiBox3. They have Monolith, Project Sora, Retro has hired ex-Naughty Dog staff, and there's more I'm not familiar with that others can say.

They have been hiring, have been expanding. I'm just not sure of the details.

On top of the list that HappyDolphin listed, don't forget they opened up EAD Tokyo.  Which now has 2 teams.

Ther is also the Nintendo Software Design & Development group which was established to handle the Touch generations software on the DS.  They are undoutedly working on similar style software for 3DS and possibly Wii U.

They also do a lot of outsourcing these days (or publishing as a 2nd party).  Metroid: Other M, Punch-Out, Excite Truck, ExciteBots, Mario Strikers Charged, Batallion Wars 2, Endless Ocean, Endless Ocean 2, Wario Land: Shake It, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Super Mario Sluggers, Fatal Frame IV, Captain Rainbow, Another Code: R, Hotel Dusk, Sin & Punishent: Star Successor, Reginleiv, Mario Sports Mix, Pandora's Tower, Fortune Street, The Last Story and most 3D Classics on the 3DS.  Even Luigi's Mansion 2 is being outsourced.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Yes Viper, I believe the guys who did Punch Out!! Wii will be working on Luigi's mansion. They're Canadian, and I don't think they are 2nd party per se, they must be contractors. It's as you say, Nintendo has been getting more studios involved in the production of games, and that's needed for a company undergoing massive expansion and in dire need of increasing the throughput of games it can offer to its audience.

Vancouver, Next Level Games, also credited to the Mario Strikers series. They seem primarily to be "contract" developers, similar to Monster Games or TOSE (both of whom also often work with Nintendo)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

As long as Wii U has it's own "Wii Sports" killer launch app then I think that is enough to get people hooked. But I can't see another revolutionary launch title like Wii Sports coming from any developer anytime soon, but I'm willing to get proven wrong.
