Forums - Nintendo - Iwata can’t promise “overwhelmingly rich” Wii U launch titles, proposals for evergreen titles

Withholding info on Wii U, and now telling us "no promises" on the launch titles pretty tells us to aim low and keep expectations to a bare minimum

nintendo states that the new building will improve hardware and software development by housing all employes under one roof instead of having them split between their kyoto research center R&D facility in the higashiyama ward and the main office in the minami ward improving employee communicaiton.    if all of your employees are under one roof that the old facilities at to be closed no?

Most likely yes, but you never know. Either way it's in your favor because not nowing we can't put that on the side of more manpower to output more games, so your point.

They've been doing that WiiBox3. They have Monolith, Project Sora, Retro has hired ex-Naughty Dog staff, and there's more I'm not familiar with that others can say.

They have been hiring, have been expanding. I'm just not sure of the details.

you're forgetting that development budgets for HD games are larger (meaning man power).  a few hires here and there probably doesn't mean more games just the need for more people to say even with prior productivity.  when nintendo was raking in billion dollar yearly profits they should have been investing that in studio expansions.

They are... They're building a giant new headquarters in Kyoto that will allow them to further expand in-house development teams, and they purchased Monolift Soft in 2007.  Plus, as has been pointed out by other already, they are doing a lot of franchise sequels with third-party contractors like Next Level and Monster Games.

a) buildings don't make games.

b) when opening the new facitilities the old ones are to be closed.  this is more about consolidation the hardware/software guys to be together then expansion.

It was my understanding that the new Kyoto facility was to be a great deal larger than their current headquarters, and that it would allow them to greatly expand their development teams.  If I am wrong, I stand corrected.  Perhaps we're both right.   Because, I thought that the hardware teams were already in the main headquarters with the rest of the company, except for EAD Tokyo, which is obviously in Tokyo.

That's how Nintendo has always done things, I don't understand why you'd all of the sudden expect them to announce everything prior to the E3 before launch?

That's just it. I'm not expecting much before or at E3. That's how I've always done things. I usually don't try to hype myself up over anything, except the only two (and last): Wii and Natal. All I got is waggle and the kinect.

Nintendo's last two E3's have been rather spectacular, if I may be so bold.  I think they've learned that, even if most of the games they show are more than a year or two out from release, the fans still need to know that those games are coming.  But as far as expectations go...I go into every E3 with none, because Nintendo basically provides none lol.  I think it's best that way.

Correct.  The new facility will be far larger than the current facility and house more employees.   If my figures are correct, it's going to be almost twice as big as the current facility and when you add in the staff moving over from the main HQ building as well, there will be about 40% of unused space in a direct transfer.  I highly doubt they plan to keep that much space unused.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Honestly, I could be completely wrong but I suspect Nintendo is really trying to lower expectations in order to maximize the positive reception of what they do announce ...

In a way it wouldn't be that much different from parents of teenagers telling their children before Christmas that they shouldn't expect remarkably expensive gifts (like iPads) just because their friends are getting them; because you can then give them something like a 3DS or an iPod and they will be far more likely to be happy with it.

E3 has to come fast, we need more details asap! and as far as the software lineup goes, as long as I get a new mario game, pikmin and a new IP, i'll be a happy camper!

This could be quite true. However, I think hype for an amazing launch would be a better plan.
