Forums - Gaming - Just beat FF XIII -2 the other day

I liked the game at first, but after a while, once I beat the game, I didn't really go back and try and get all the cystal thingies or unlock the alternate endings. Although I like the combat system, I hate the constant random battles. There is especially this one map where the battles are like every single second...ugh.

The story is also too complicated.(they tried to hard to make it like Mass Effect)
To be honest, I prefer a linear, straight to the point story like XIII.

I remember this map, it bugged the hell out of me. You get no gil out of it either! And it's impossible to run so you might as well just fight. I think it was decent exp though.

Its sad that xiii-2 overshadowed other rpg's. Both xiii and xiii-2 had so much potential, but they didn't meet my expectations.

I liked FF XIII, the story was good, the only thing that killed it for me was the linearity and that the battle would end when the controlling character died(that was so infuriating)

FF XIII-2, was a step in the right direction(battle system wise) but I still felt a little shafted; in FF XIII-2 made it seem like you had a vast universe/dimensions to explore(which was true to an extent) but every world was some medium size plain filled with obstacles and you couldn't even access certain ones without those crystal things. in a little bit of retro-spec FF XIII-2 was like a story driven dungeon crawler.

I played FF XIII and I really liked and Lighting was one of my favorite females Characters ever. Now I am thinking about to get XIII-2. I played the the XIII-2 and liked the battle system but the character Sarah however was not really charismatic. How long does it take to beat this game?

Serah will grow on you, she is one of the best things about FFXIII-2's story.

It took me 35 hours, I'm closing in on the platinum and I'm currently at 80 hours now.

Wow, really 80 hours to platinum?  I have about 120 of the fragments in only 35 hours, but then again I used FAQs for some of the bull shit fragments.   Namely the Brain Blast and Captain Cryptic because to me that seems like a waste of time trying to guess all those answers.  I also haven't done some of the more time consuming quests like the 10,000 coins or whatever it is.

I've spent a lot of time doing useless crap. Collecting crystals, grinding, making money, forming the perfect team, chocobo racing, raising a chocobo team. I'm at 140 fragments now and the remaining 20 will be pretty easy though.

Quoting the truth out of quoting the truth!

I'm thinking about just renting it, which I haven't done in years. It is short right? I was so disappointed in XIII so I have a hard time justifying a purchase unless it is really cheap.

Define short? It's a pretty standard length for JRPGs (30-40 hours).

30h-40h is really streching it at least if you are not going to do all the side quests. I run XIII-2 trough in under 20h. XIII took something like 50h if I remember right. it's pretty short for JRPG. Still I found it better than XIII so I recommend to play it.

Really now? I'm pretty darn fast at games in general and I don't see how you could have run through it under 20h in your first time. I'm sitting at 25 hours and I still have a good bit of crap to do.

The story can be done in 25-30 hrs if you spam it, but the Platinum takes between 55-80 hours depending on guides/skill/luck/use of time.

People saying they finished this game in under 5hrs or whatever crap like that need to realise that you should be playing the game blind and not using guides and what nots, guides make you finish the game quicker, so does rushing through the game and not taking the time to experience the game.

Yeah it took me about 40 hours to get through the game.  I just took my time, explored around, talked to people, tried to see if I can get some extra quests and stuff, going back and fourth, etc.  People really need to start enjoying the games they play instead of rushing through them.
