Forums - Nintendo - Explain why people love Pokemon games to me please!

Seriously. I need to know what these games are all about. I know nothing about Pokemon. I never watched the cartoon. I have never played any of the games. I don't even know what genre they would fall under. However I am kind of inerested in grabbing a couple of the games if they really are that good. Anything that massively popular can't be all that bad....except Twilight...

So ya, what's he deal with Pokemon? Why are these games such a big deal? I always thought they were just for kids because I was already past the age where I watched caroons before Pokemon started airing in North America. It seems people of all ages enjoy the games, though...

Fill me in!

I love Pokemon games because they are fun, addicting, and every person who plays it has a different experience.

Add me! :)

It's about monstrous (and perhaps cute) "Pocket Monsters" being forced to fight each other. You train your Pokemon much like you train party members in a traditional RPG. The combat is turn-based, and heavily reliant on a "rock-paper-scissors" style of gameplay where a certain kind of attack is effective against certain Pokemon, but your Pokemon is also weak against some kinds of attacks.

It's well-loved because there are a large amount of Pokemon, leaving opportunities to create your own ideal Pokemon team. Over the years the games have become larger, more content-filled, and strategically deeper. The DS versions feature online multiplayer, though the local multiplayer element of trading Pokemon has existed since the first game. Pokemon has a fun formula. Simple as that.

They're fun, addictive and occasionally challenging. You spend time developing a unique team, learning strategies etc. Essentially they're a brilliant series of RPGs.

if u just look at the fucking pokemon u realize how cute and awesome they are and how much u want them. Whenever i lose my passion for the games i look at pics of skarmory and other bad ass pokemon and just cant help but to train them. Also, they are my childhood.

I've been playing since day one with Blue version. These games have so much going on. I love being able to pick my party and start growing. The game is solid!

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

I think Yahtzee said that it's a game for hardcore completionists. Gotta catch 'em all, amirite?

You play as the trainer of a team of Super Powered Animal Buddies!

You fight in turn based battles using a mix of strategic and RPG elements!

It combines the focused nature of the JRPG with a wide number of choices for nearly infinite team possibilities!

Because some off the Pokemon are cute, and some are strong, and you only have to use your favorites!

Because its the best JRPG for multiplayer!

Because you can play the game casually or intensely by any standards and still get a full experience!

Because the world is fun to explore!

Because you can play for 10 hours or 2 minutes at a time!

You can catch hundreds of critters, or focus on a select few you are passionate about!

Because it is to the JRPG what Mario is to the platformer.

Because you can actually roleplay in a JRPG.

Because Snivy is so smug.

Because Every generation offers something unique.

Because the scale can chage from mundane to epic in a matter of moments.

Because of some of the best chiptunes I've ever heard.

But most of all, because it represents everything that is right about the RPG. You get to create a team, explore the world, fight evil, and interact with friends, both real and imaginary. What more can you ask for in a game?

The other brilliant thing about the game is how much it ranges in skill level.

A complete newb can have fun with it without really knowing anything about games.

A gamer can play it a bit more thoroughly, learn all the types, catch all the pokemon etc.

Then there are the slightly deranged hardcore Pokemon fans who play competitively and ever so slightly scare me.

Because it's in my name.
