Forums - Sales - Vita 2012 Predicted Sales Chartz 4.08 mil

There is no such thing as a product that deserved more sales. It may have technological advantage, but if people have heard of it and are not buying that is a sign that it is a poor product and the company has only themselves to blame.

So 6m was the first prediction and we already got down to 4m ? ouch. I've followed this thread over a few weeks and I have to say I think you're still to high.

Of course there is! Sales don't make something a great product and lack of sales doesn't make something a bad product. The product is what it is. Sales are affected by numorous variables: information penetration, consumer conception, market forces, logistics, etc. I'm not saying Vita deserves more sales for the sake of having more sales or that Sony shouldn't have to work hard for the sales, I'm saying that it deserves it because it is a great device and in turn gamers deserve a device like the Vita. It's something I fully honestly believe deserves the support of gamers and that it is the device people should buy.

The Vita's problem is that the vast majority of the market buys hardware to get to the games. The Vita doesn't really have interesting games and people don't like to buy into a system that might very well be dead in the near future. The most damning thing is that there is no notable first party software push which sends the message that not even the manufacturer believes in its own device. On top of this you have big third party games that all failed to live up to expectations. FIFA 13 was a repackaged FIFA 12, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation was just an okay game, CoD:BO Declassified is an embarrassment and Need for Speed: Most Wanted apparently tried to please different audiences of racing fans, but failed to satisfy either (NfS comment based on regional review of PS360 versions).

You are asking gamers to believe in a system and shell out money for something that is neither backed up by Sony, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Activision or any other big publisher. Right now is the worst time to pick up a Vita, because its future is so uncertain.

I strongly disagree with you. This system is not in risk of dying in the near future. It's ongoing existence is important for Sony's profitability. It's development costs need to be made up and Sony is pushing forth gaming with heavy support. Which is baffeling to me if you believe the Vita isn't being supported by Sony. Look through the list of games Vita has: Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Gravity Rush, Wipeout, Modnation, Resistance, Hot Shots Golf, Little Deviants, Unit 13, MLB 12, Shinobido 2, Reality Fighters, Minna to Issho, Monster Radar, Motorstorm RC, Escape Plan, Hustle Kings, Sound Shapes, and Super Stardust Delta all in less than the first year. Coming soon: PlayStation All stars, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Tearaway, Killzone and more. These are all published by Sony with established franchises and new IPs. The Vita is launching its 2.0 OS update and has several mainstream apps. The PS Mobile runs on Vita and PS Plus is launching. The 1st party support is immense.

Third party support is more limited, but still Konami put out seven games, Ubisoft six, EA five, Namco four, Sega four, and WB four.

what boost is needed for next week to keep up with the prediction for your calculation of the graphs ?

Next week is expecting a 14% growth. This week was suppose to be 23% which is why the final total shot down 200k. The Black Friday prediction is 117%, reaching a measly 150k Vitas that week. One would think if Vita were to sell it would be while the price is lowered, 150k seems too low for a system people are clamoring to get a price drop.

How many of these games were made by Sony's first string developers? Like none? And how many of them have the potential to carry the system through grim times? None (otherwise the Vita would sell right now). Sony isn't bringing their A-game to the platform and they aren't going to. That's why there is a problem.

In America and Europe, the Vita is already in the near death-like status the PSP was after a couple of years on the market. Sluggish hardware sales and no software sales to speak of. It's going to finish 2012 with about 1m units sold in either territory, being on pace to sell only 1m in 2013 in either territory. Western third parties don't care much for handhelds to begin with and even if they were able to sell to 10 percent of Vita owners in the West by the end of 2013, that's still only 400k copies. A figure that doesn't justify development of exclusives. It's not even enough to care about making solid ports, so with sinking game quality the Vita isn't going to turn things around. The PSP never made a comeback either and it was much better positioned than the Vita.

In Japan, things don't look as bad software-wise. However, the 3DS is much stronger there and it's going to pick up some serious momentum in the next six months (Animal Crossing, holidays, Dragon Quest VII, Monster Hunter 4) while the Vita will continue to majorly struggle. Even the most loyal third parties will think hard about supporting the Vita when its lifetime sales have been outpaced by a factor of 10:1 and addressing 10 percent of the installed base leads to 200k or less copies sold. Sony has already admitted that it has been hard for them to attract third party support, a situation that they didn't anticipate. And there's nothing in sight to turn things around. At this point in time Sony needs nothing short of a miracle.

Who do you count as first string? Japan Studio? X Dev? Guerilla Games? Santa Monica? Superbot? Bend? Liverpool? San Diego? Or does it have to be Naughty Dog or Sucker Punch?

hopefully 5M

Personally, I don't think the Vita will hit 4m by year end. It's sad, but it's look fairly accurate by this point.

Spin doctors. You can ask for a job at Sony PR department, as you do a better job than them.

I'm trying. They could use me. They have a rough time outside the PS Blog.

Keep trying and you could join one of their focus groups. Every company has them all over the internet and which fan says no to free games/hardware to do the same they do for free?
