Forums - Sony - PS4 Specs "leaked" by fudzilla

what does it take to show games like Uncharted 3 or Gears 3 on a better resolution and textures/shaders..? That's all to be expected now.

Now I wouldn't mind that at all, and I doubt devs want to increase there dev budgets by too much either. Graphics people can stick to PC if they want it that bad.

Still, doesn't really sound like something Sony would so, sadly, we'll just have to wait and see :/

To sum it up, PC rules every time.

If you're just looking for raw speed, of course. Consoles provide a better experience without setup and choosing parts and driver issues et cetera. Also provides some unique games that rely on the controller.

(or did - I miss those days where you put a disc in and the game just starts, now it's this Wii Menu and Xbox Live BS)

Sony will find something to over spend on if it isn't the graphics. Just like they did with the PS3 and PSVita... seems to be a trend with them lately.

Yes, now you need to patch and/or install games on consoles most of the time (well, except Wii)

I'm sure 3rd parties will follow suit on Wii U. Nintendo focuses on experience tho and their 1st party probably won't.

Aren't they saying the graphics card will have 1GB RAM? I hope they'll go for 4GB RAM

Yes and that's what I'm saying is solid for a dedicated console. They'll likely have 512Mb to 2GB of DRAM for other items. So far not many rumors on that though.

They will definitely not leave it at 512 MB, it's only double what PS3 has. My guess is 2 GB simply because 1 GB is too little and 4 GB is too much for those idiots who decide these things.

You're confusing video ram with other ram.

Video is 1GB to 2Gb so far based on rumors.

Then they have 512MB or higher for regular ram.

Then there have been rumors for crazy amoungs of eDRAM as well.

I think as it all solidifies, there will be plenty of RAM in there.

Lol, 4GB of VRAM would bring the console down fast eh.

For X720/PS4 this would be realistic/solid IMO:

X720:

  • 768MB VRAM
  • 2GB DDR(whatever number)
  • 32mb eDRAM

PS4:

  • 1GB VRAM
  • 2GB DDR(whatever number)

Further cementing my estimations. I'll update my vs thread with the 1GB ram and 2.9GHz speed.

Its 1GB of VRAM on the GPU. They didn't say anything about system RAM.

I doubt it's only clocked at 2.9 GHz. Even the Cell processor is clocked at 3.2GHz and from my understanding the 3850 APU is relatively easy to overclock. I reckon a 3.2GHz APU minimum with Sony's own custom cooling solution.

I also doubt they're using a 3850 based chip. The CPU architecture in that chip is anchient. If they go the APU route they'll probably be looking at Trinity based APUs which are based on Piledriver (2nd gen Bulldozer/FX chips with a 7 series GPU). Would make more sense having two 7 series GPUs in the same console in crossfire too.

I suspect we'll see 1-2 Gb of total RAM. 2Gb should really be the minimum imo.
