Forums - Nintendo - Good turn-based strategy games for DS?

Sup guys. Recently got a 3DS and it's my frst handheld ever so I am not familiar with the DS library at all. I'm curious to know if there are any decent turn-based strategy games from the DS era that would be worth playing. I used to play the shining force games addictively as a kid, but haven't played anything similiar since SF2 and wouldn't mind seeing how the genre has evolved since then.

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Fire Emblem says hi.

Based on a combination of what I've played and what I've heard:

DS:
Fire Emblem
Civilization Revolution
Advance Wars
Disagea
Final Fantasy Tactics A2

3DS:
Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars

Devil Survivor is supposed to be like this as well. But start with Fire Emblem

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Front Mission!

Advance Wars Dual Strike and Advance Wars Days of Ruin are awesome to begin with. Follow those up with Devil Survivor 1 & 2 and Final Fantasy Tactics A2.

360 Games Now Playing   360 Games unopened:  Resonance of Fate  Last 360 Game I Beat: Resident Evil 5

DS Games Now Playing: Dragon Quest VI  DS Games unopened Knights in the Nightmare, Etrian Odyssey III, Okamiden, Dragon Quest IX Last DS Game I beat: Radiant Historia

Wii Games Now Playing  Super Mario Galaxy 2, Arc Rise Fantasia  Wii  Games unopened  Little King's Story, Sonic Colors, Silent Hill Shattered Memories Last Wii Game I beat: Sin & Punishment 2

I don't know if it really counts as a turn-based strategy but I would suggest radiant historia.....it has a grid-like battle style and it's turned based(and it's a really good game)

Like others have said... Advance Wars and Fire Emblem

I was always interested in Panzer Tactics DS but it didn't get the best reviews. I will probably pick it up eventually though anyways considering I loved the old PC game back in the day.

One game no one has mentioned yet that I loved that is like a TBS game would be Heroes of Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes. The game is awesome.  This game was actually suggested to me when I made a thread about rebuying a DS and asking for suggestions.

I saw someone suggest Civ Revolution for the DS which is a decent suggestion.  I never really enjoyed it as much as Civ3 (or even Civ5) but it isn't terrible.  If I knew how it would play then I probably wouldn't have gotten it.  I could go further into why I didn't like it as much as the other "real" Civs but there isn't really any point.  If you can pick it up for around 10 dollars on Amazon then that wouldn't be too bad of a price for it.

P.S. TBS games haven't evolved too much but that doesn't mean it is a bad thing.  If you are looking for something pretty damn unique then try out that Heroes game since it is like a puzzle game mixed with TBS. I used to love the Shining Forces games back in the day a lot too.  If you pick up any Advance Wars or Fire Emblem then I can guarantee you will have a good time.

Pokemon Black/White is awesome and turn based! And when you beat it Pokemon Black/White 2 will be right around the corner.
