No the Wii is not a failure,not by a long shot.
1,It has more variety in games than the HD consoles.
2,It is this gens best selling console.
3,It appeals to casual gamers (wii sports,wii party,just dance etc) and hardcore gamers (xenoblade,zelda,goledneye etc)
4,It has some of the highest rating games of all time (galaxy 1&2,skyward sword)
5,it has never had the "red ring of death" (probably one of the most shameful moments in gaming,how people stay loyal to microsoft after that debacle is beyond me)
6,It has even got my wife into gaming,even to the extent that shes finished with zumba and now playing cursed mountain.
7,full backward compatibilty to play the cube classics.
This is not the view of a fanboy either,i have owned a 360 in the past (which died on me) and i also own a PS3 which i think is a great gamers console.My point is that many people diss the wii unfairly and its not half as bad as people make out.Yes its slowing down in sales now,mainly due to lack of games,HD consoles being cheaper,and also HD tvs costing a hell of a lot less than they did when wii was released in 2006.If anything i think the PS3 and 360 may have been slightly ahead of time when released and its now that HD gaming is becoming more to the fore,as its so much more affordable to be a hd gamer these days.

How many times is this question going to be asked. Yes it was disappointing, no it wasnt a bad console. The online was atrocious, the worst part is that Ninty didnt even TRY to make it better, the one shining beacon; VC was just dropped. THe motion tech was limited, and when they finally did "fix" that the motion+ got a little support.
1st party games were all over the place IMHO. Brawl was a let down, but the Galaxies were great, MKWii was a let down but Xenoblade is good. I find it funny how people say "but, but the 1st party" even if every game made by Ninty was gold, that would still only account for about 5-8% of the game library, With the 3rd party games being mostly crap, so that means the majority of the library is poor.
And what is it about sales?? That should have no bearing on whether you have fun with the system itself. Wii sold better than the other two but got the worst support and has the worst library, IMHO. Last time I checked I cant play sales, but I can play games, something that WIi was lacking

I own 61 retail games for the console, the most I've ever owned for any console (and that's not counting WiiWare and Virtual Console games). And many of these games have provided me some incredible experiences. In fact, my favorite game ever (Super Mario Galaxy 2) is a Wii game, and there's many other Wii games that I would consider some of my all-time favorites as well.

So while everyone is going to have a different story on what they feel about the Wii, I felt that it was an incredible console, in fact with the awesome games it's provided me, it's my favorite console yet. ^_^

Why do I need a PS3 to know this?

Nintendo shouldn't be worrying about it, they have stated all along that they aren't competing with the HD consoles...

I agree about halfway though, the Wii is mostly a machine that was neglected and missed great opportunities, a lot of it was through Nintendo's own fault for not showing initiative for better implementation of proper motion controls and for choosing aged architecture that made cross-platform development either a pain or pretty much impossible. One of the biggest disappointments in gaming is probably a bit too harsh for me though, we have to remember that the expectations were very low indeed across the board so the fall wasn't very high at all. In fact; one could argue the opposite, at least purely from a commercial standpoint, seeing as how it outperformed both the other two and crushed the misgivings and low initial predictions and forecasts to smitherines.

For me though, the entire 7th generation has been an incredible disappointment on almost all fronts and the PS3 and 360 have done little to nothing to keep that feeling at bay.

It is extremely disappointing. Not only did I expected the Wii to become the lead console for every multi-platform game, I expected Nintendo to have 100% market share by causing all the 360 and PS3 owners to return their consoles and buy the Wii instead.

I have lost faith in Nintendomination. I will never set up unrealistic expectations again.

Of course not, it's one of my favorite Nintendo consoles of all time. But, it's time to move on to a new console so I'm getting the Wii U, thank god it has backwards compatibility so I can keep all of my favorite games when I move on. I loved all of the consoles I used to own(yes, this includes the PS2, which I no longer have not because I hate Sony, it's because there's nothing to play on it even if I was to get it again. Nothing interesting me). Overall, it's not a disappointment.
