Does that make this a fantastic story then?

Yes, it does. This was the first game in a long time that got an emotional response out of me with the murder of Fiora. That was a great build-up for a huge game.

But admittedly, the final hours of the game are disappointing. It was predictable that there would be plot twists (Egil wouldn't be the final evil in the game) and at the end they became almost laughable. This whole scientists thing was just a plot twist for the sake of a plot twist.

Overall, the story was never as good as in the beginning of the game, but still always good enough until the Mechonis Core. The game itself more than made up for a story that ultimately got weaker over time.

That scene was too drawn out and cliche for me, but I did like what came both before and after. But in general I thought the plot was merely okay, with quality decreasing over time. There were a lot of good moments, especially when Dunban is involved, but plenty of bad ones, especially when Egil or Zanza rear their faces. I didn't mind it on the whole though, which is more than I can say for the vast majority of game stories.

The gameplay's amazing though, so what do I care?

Hmm. So my pump idea would have worked after all!

Didn't catch on that the colored stuff was blood, though.

Thanks Rol and Conegamer!

BTW, @ Conegamer - I explore every inch of the map because I like to have the whole map filled out. I know you don't necessarily have to do it.

Actually the map fills out as soon as you've found every non-secret location on the map. Otherwise a few areas would never get filled. I'm thinking of two places in particular, one of which is near the end... -_-

Alright so I just started playing today. I only played for about 30 minutes and I just got to Colony 9. It's seems pretty good so far from what little I've played. I think I'll do some exploring and take on some sidequest the next time I play.

I don't think that the ending is the weakest part of the game. I enjoyed the plot twists in Mechonis Core with Dickson, and what happened to the High Entia, and the scenes in the Heart were rather emotional. Even the ending scenes, even if 'out-there', were executed well.

The weakest part of the story was easily from Satorl Marsh to Eryth Sea. THAT had no synergy to the rest of the plot and was more filler, very good filler, admittadly. But the best parts are the start, up to Satorl Marsh, Alcamoth and Eryth Sea, and Mechonis.

OK so the scene I was thinking of was just Metal Face explaining the spears. I just found the answer on GameFAQs:

The Face Mechon are piloted by (perhaps a better phrase would be "bonded with") Homs. The red streams of ether you see running through their bodies (that Shulk calls a great deal of attention to the first time you see them) are basically the blood/essence of the other Homs they've consumed to power their frames. So basically Homs blood is running through the entire Mechon body. Thus, the Monado is unable to cut through them normally, due to the restriction placed on the blade. This restriction is later lifted when the giant (whose real name I can't recall at the moment), possessed by Zanza, is freed from Prison Island, and releases the seal on the Monado. After that, the Monado can not only hurt Face Mechon freely, but can hurt people as well.

That...sorta makes sense I suppose. But it misses the fact that you can't cut them because they contain the blood of Zanza, which I believe is the thing he unshackles in Prison Island (hence why Vanea and Fiora call it a 'double-edged sword').

Sounds like a plan! Glad you're enjoying it so far, but you've got quite a way to go yet...

My advice would be to not worry about doing the non-named quests (Monster Quests, Search Quests etc.), as you'll do most of them anyway. It's the named ones you have to really search for, and they build affinity and give exp., and unlock new, harder, but more rewarding quests.

Haven't visited this thread in a while, but it looks like these haven't been posted yet.
They contain lots of spoilers but are the most beautiful screenshots of Xenoblade I have ever seen!
They are rendered in Dolphin at a ridiculously high resolution with insane image quality and possibly improved lighting as well. The last image is using high resolution textures for the HUD, but I think besides that this is the same content we all have on our game discs.
Insane or what??

Not sure if Mothman found this link, but could someone answer some questions for him? He has been here for a bit, but does not post much so maybe he has not located this thread or one of you experts on this game to ask a very important question.

Depends what his question is, but I'll try.

The thread is fairly self-explanatory. Ask a question, and I, or someone else, will answer it. Or post where you are in the game, or opinions. It works well, and the atmosphere is friendly.

Yes Cone and I have spoken before when I posted in here about how slowly I was moving through the game.

I screwed myself out of a side quest on Valak mountain yesterday. Without spoiling anything , there is a quest in that area in which you must defeat 2 marks. I made the mistake of finding one of them before I accepted the quest. Had to defeat it (It hit me first.) . Guess what? It doesn't respawn after you accept the quest so now I have a half completed quest that cannot be finished. It struck  me as odd since there are some monsters who respawn over and over even after you have completed the quest

Anyway I've moved on with the story and am now at the fallen arm area (Level 59). I've decided that I'm going to try to finish the game so that I can play something else.
