I sincerely doubt wii U will be less powerful.
Wii was more powerful than the previous generation by quite a bit, and if Nintendo wants to launch at another 250$ price tag, they can easily afford the 360 or ps3 level hardware and sell at profit, even with their special controller.

I care, I actually care a good bit, but I will still buy it.

If you like Nintendo's first party titles, it being less powerful than PS3, but still being in HD shouldn't matter as much. The problem I see though, if PS4/NeXbox are going that power route, and say that it at least doubles the capabilities of the previous systems, production costs for games will increase, as well as the console itself. And for some reason, I think games are going to rise 10 dollars to 69.99 to cover the costs. But that's just me.

If Nintendo doesn't want to compete in an area it has limited expertise in, sounds smart to me. Go with your strengths and gradually build up the weaknesses. Nintendo is all about unique experiences now, whereas Xbox and PS3 are about graphic experiences. Right now, unless we all come into a good deal of money, I'm worried at how expensive next-gen will be, excluding Wii U. So chances are, Wii U will be the only system I get next gen.

I was thinking the same thing.  It's expensive supporting my video game habit.  I was hoping in buying only one console next generation and it all depends on the price of the Wii U and PS4/NextBox and the games themselves.  It's looks as if Wii U may be the cheapest and so I will go with them at the moment.

All I really need from nintendo is a good, a very good online service.

I want to play AAA multiplatform titles on my new Nintendo console.

of course people care, just more ammo for the console war. and judging by the amount of these posts we get on just this site, id assume people care alot. I care just because i dont want a repeat of WIi. Wii U will be aight against PS360 but what about 4 and 720

It's a price issue really. While i'm no advocate for cutting edge console graphics, when you're launching the Wii U even at a low $299 (purely hypothetical, could be less or more), why should you purchase it if its weaker than your soon to be cheaper alternatives in the 360 and PS3 that have been out for 6 years and have enormous game libraries at this point?

You have a very valid point here.  I already have a Xbox 360 and if the Wii U is just on par or less than that then what's the use of buying one, other than for Nintendo first party games that will be in HD?  However, I really don't think the Wii U will be less powerful than the PS360.  We'll definitely fine out at E3 .

Personally, I really don't care about graphics in this case. The last generation will just repeat itself as I will buy the Wii U for Nintendo's first party titles only and Xbox 3 for some Xbox exclusives and third party titles.

If this move saves me some money (which it does) then that's just great.

But you see that is the problem here. With the Wii U Nintendo wants you to buy those third party titles on their console so that they can make profit. But with a console thats even weaker than current gen, it only begs to question why anyone would want to buy watered down ports like you just mentioned. And this is assuming they even receive 3rd party ports unlike what happened with the Wii if the nextbox and ps4 turn out to be graphical powerhouses as rumours suggest.

I don't know if Nintendo can simply survive in the HD environment with just their first party sales but I also highly doubt the Wii U will be less powerful thanthe 360 and PS3.

Well, whatever happens they will definitely survive. The N64 and Gamecube (and also partly the Wii) shows that Nintendo can manage even without the biggest third party titles.

But yeah, the whole point with the Wii U is to attract third parties (as seen in last year's E3) which is why I don't think it will be weaker than PS3 either.

If you want wii U to follow in the wii's footsteps as a third-party no go area then graphics or power shouldn't matter.

If like me you want triple A third party games and the choice of pretty much all the multi-plats then yes power should matter.
At the end of the day developers want their games to look good and show off their skills. Good hardware is essential to accomplish this.

From what I gather the specs are better on the wii U than PS3 and x360 so how can it be less powerful?

If the weakest console of the next gen is not as powerful as the current top console this gen it kinda defeats the whole purpose of generations.

Generations should be more than just about a new type of controller.
