Xbox 720 has been fully detailed to some third-parties, VG247 has learned, and has been slotted in for a Christmas 2013 released. And yes: of course it’ll have a Blu-ray drive.

Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure.

http://investigativereportingworkshop.org/investigations/broadband-adoption/htmlmulti/broadband-adoption-map/

US had only a 60% Broadband penetration rate (as of Dec. 2010).  That means such a device would cut out two-fifths of its potential market.

This does not sound like a good business decision to me.

Mike from Morgantown

so how do they surf in the internet? does this mean they have no internet, very slow internet (how slow?) or just that they don't have broadband but they could have if they want? because this wouldn't wonder me, just because some 70-years olds or very very poor have no broadband at home doesn't mean that they couldn't and hell people who have now broadband even if they could are really not the people buying stuff like consoles^^  it's not like "40% don't have a broadband subscription so 40% wouldn't buy a console anymore then"

it's more like "40% have no broadband of which 32 percent don't have money for it or don't even care to have it because they don't use computers or so and yep, they don't have consoles as well even without broadband need"

i wonder because i have shitty internet here as well where in live in germany and i officially have no broadband connection but i can still play online with my 360 and pc and just having a connection would be even easier.

i think they would maybe lose 5% of customers in the first years not more. most who say "wouldn't buy" would still buy it and just say it as long as they don't see the next uncharted or halo and the few percent they would lose wouldn't be a big problem. and they would lose some sales to pirates but it costs a lot to sell a console under loss to a pirate who doesn't buy a game then to bring revenue (the first time if they would sell the console for a loss)

€it: ah ok saw this under the map:

"Broadband adoption is based on the 768Kbps download / 200Kbps upload standard used by the Federal Communications Commission's Form 477 data"

see, i for example don't have those speeds and i still play with my 360/ps3/pc. i only have ~450kbps download and upload is even more horrible then this 200kbps. so if some in america have internet like me they should have still the chance to play online or only have the console online.

fuck that shit, fuck that shit in its controller port.  seriously, I'm a huge fan of having all consoles, but mark my words, if any home console requires internet all the time...I will not buy that shit.  I love sony's stuff, but I won't buy the PS3 if the same thing happens.  Same if they lock out used sales.  I will be voting with my wallet and some of this nonsense game publishers and console makers are doing make me want to stab someone in their frontal lobe for their retardation.

so yes, not good.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

That would be some console if true and I like. But ..

1) The cost, this system is looking expensive. 2013 could be good economic times or bad. Yes MS has money to burn but if the system is too heavily subsidised that's not good business.

2) On-line only is cutting to much of the market off. As well as... Internet down (happens frequently in my area), I can't play. Reach broadband limit, can't play. Can't pay internet bills, can't play. Can't take it to our holiday house in the sticks because there is no broadband there.

no clue what "in the sticks" means but "can't pay internet bill" and "holiday house" sounds funny

I won't buy it until next week AND another source reports MORE findings.

a source from a few months ago saying that the "720" will have a 6 core CPU and dual GPU

Oh and

http://pastebin.com/j4jVaUv0

Source from arround the same time that mentioned the Darango and Orbis codenames for next gen consoles, which if you will remember is the codename linked to the recent Kotaku rumour for the PS4 http://kotaku.com/5896996/the-next-playstation-is-called-orbis-sources-say-here-are-the-details which is confirmed by the fact that it redirects on the Playstation dev site http://orbis.scedev.net/

this would mean a $600 pricetag :D

it wont be $600 because
A they aren't stupd
B console sell at a loss then make up for it in software sales

i doubt the online always thing will stick in any way shape or form, on PC the online always thing has already been fixed to not matter when pirating a game, will be no differnt on console

It means living out in the woods, in the middle of nowhere. Aka, East Bumblefuck.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

Probably already mentioned within the thread, but i remember reading the Kinect's capabilities were restricted due to relying solely on the 360 as its source of power. Would the two GPUs alleviate that issue?

There's no way it has a dual-GPU with 7000 series. That would price it out of competition.

Sorry, but this surely not correct... tho most of the rest can easily be speculated based on what we know already and in fact its all in my comparison thread.

Thats waiting 8 years. Impressive...but that'll mean they will launch at the same time as the PS4. MS...I hope you know what your doing.

In other news, next xbox has bluray....MS stole a PS3 exclusive :P

If anyone actually didn't think there was a 99% possibility that it would include a bluray drive... they're crazy.

Like what you said, it's based on principle. What if for whatever reason my net want down? or i moved house and had to wait for a new connection, i'd be left not being able to play the NextBox.

If you don't buy the NextBox, you will not be able to play the NextBoy either.

but if i BUY the nextbox, i already spend my money on it... make internet mandatory is pushing the limits... i can go as far as to be on-line to register the software to the machine... but to be always on-line is unnecessary...

Online all the time?  That seems truly doubtful.  In 2013 that would surely limit the device hugely in many countries?

Mind you MS did push the orignal Xbox with a heavy online element which surely limited it in the day so who knows?  Maybe they'll push 360 more in emerging territories at a lower price and concentrate the new Xbox on US, UK and Europe?  I'd add Japan of course but is seems somewhat spurilous to so so.

sorry for the off-topic... UK and Europe? were do you think UK is? UK is in europe and its not a different market... so no need to split them up!
