And it just goes to show again who the real winner is these past generations, the duct tape company.

True. If Sony is smart, the PS4 will just be a roll of duct tape.
The real question here is why would they need piracy protection by being always on, when the Bluray has done a great job of that already?

Actually, I'd like to argue that badgenome is the winner of this generation!

Funny I know tons of students/workers who dont have a good Internet access only via Phone with severe datavolume restrictions. My mom lives in a rural area in germany with 50kilobyte/s she needs every last bit of it for her work. Taking my 720 to her would be pointless and all my friends there have lousy internet connections. My little brothers room has no good internet connection despite the fact my father has a good internet connection because his room is far away from the Wifi source. Lending it to him is pointless then ?
Not everyone has friends/family in one place not everyone has a good enough internet connection all the time. Some people have more than one family member that uses a lot of speed. In rural areas even in the USA this is a problem.
The people on this planet are not all like you. A feature like this would definetly kill of a lot of sales 20-25% maybe more. |
i only have 50kbyte here in my village as well (at least this stupid street i live in, not the rest of the village) and i can still play with my xbox 360 online without a problem. it's not even officially broadband here but i said "t-online" that i still wish to get a "dsl-flatrate" and i got it. ok you said your mother would need the whole 50kbyte because this isn't a lot but i don't think playing a game in singleplayer would need more than maybe 5kbyte. i think this wouldn't be so bad even at your mothers home.
you just couldn't plyay online and watching a youtube video at the pc at the same time but this isn't different with the 360.
i bet most who say they wouldn't buy the nextbox would still buy it (but included wifi is a must then). i think they would lose maybe 5-10% of customers the first year and at the end of the gen maybe 5% on average over the years but therefore they wouldn't sell consoles to pirates anymore which are sold with a loss from microsoft. (or whatever the plan with this presumed internet connection is)
i feel this "connected" stuff is going to be for MS and Sony what cartridges was for Nintendo
