I couldnt give a rats arse if all of them do it... my HOME console sits in my HOME where it is permanently connected to my HOME network. |
so since YOU can do things YOUR way, then it's fair to assume EVERYONE can do it that way too? that's jsut not the case. Hell, I have internet connection that's pretty good and I don't LIKE being online all the time. it hogs the bandwidth if I'm, say, downloading a game or something, imagine if someone had dialup and the game forced you to shut down all internet connections?
What if you're like most people who have internet that is good but is prone to occasional outages? nothing more frustrating than being in the middle of an epic killstreak and having the internet flicker. what if you were saving your game, or in the midle of a quest and hadn't saved and your internet flickered? what if you're at, say, a cottege or something and brought your console BECAUSE there was no internet?
There are too many variables, and it's too much of a hassle just to combat piracy. Piracy isn't that big of a deal, console game sales are the highest they've ever been and the gaming community is constantly growing. The idea of an 'always online' console is ridiculous. I think Microsoft (or sony, or anyone who implements that kind of DRM) is pants-on-head retarded. Not just that, but greedy and selfish. it's disgusting.
Same goes for used games. I'd blow a gasket if the next gen came around and they decided it was best to destroy the used games market. I almost always buy new and never sell my games, but that would just be a horrible, selfish, disgusting abuse of capitalism. "yay, let's destroy an entire business (used game sales) becuase we need MOAR MONEY!" it's bad enough the fuckers make used game buyers pay for online passes, but anything more than the 5-10 dollar license fee for playing a game online and...well, fuck that. I honestly think I'd consider giving up gaming if it came to that. I have over 130 games in my posession to play and beat, as well as dozens of games I'd happily return to. realistically, I could not buy another game for 5 years and still have plenty to do.
