The Vita would technically be the first. Also, then the same thing can be said of Nintendo. What do I do with my gba games that I use to play in my ds lite but now I only have the XL? Of coarse no one demanded free gba game downloads, same thing here with Sony. The point stands that Sony would be wise to include BC on the PS4 as an incentive* for fans.

Like Ben said, Southern Islands is plenty good enough. Nvidia's Kepler would have been nice but maybe Sony doesn't want to partner up with Nvidia anyore. Also, a GTX 680 equivalent GPU would make the console way to expensive. More than likely they are going "mid-range" so if this rumor is true, they would likely fo for a 7770 equivalent tops to keep it affordable for consumers.

now seriously... GPU could be a modified 7950 to output a max of 100 to 120 watt and CPU could go as high as 60 whatt (200 max for total, energy and temperature is key now)... 2 to 3 GB for GPU and a 1.5Gb for main... not having BC is not a deal breaker IMO... its not the case that all PS3 will stop work at the launch date of "Orbis"
About the used games... its not need to be on-line all the time... just for the "registration" of the game in that PSN account or "Orbis" machine (the second is more likely)!

True, anything is a possibility at this point. But we'll have to wait quite some time till we hear anything officially from Sony, at earliest TGS or more than likely Feb/March next year in a conference much like the NGP.

which is still insane. I still remember when I was going crazy over Gears of War 1 or Forza 3 graphics. Killzone 2 and God of War made people geek out.
Now we are talking about 8-10 times the horse power and people are like "meh... expected more than that!"

How does it make it false? You do know the new iPad resolution is beyond 1080p right?  2048×1536 to be exact.

No B/C isn't a surprise. The PS3 is hard to work with and the only way to have B/C would be to put the PS3 CPU and GPU into the PS4 which would raise the cost by $50-$100. I say good riddance.

Come to think of it, I withdraw that part of my statement. Reason is, the PS3 can output 1080p but no game runs native on it. So I guess the PS4 can output that resolution but It wont have games running native at that res. Bottomline, the majority of PS4's will be connected to 720/1080 tv's anyway.

no one uses nvidia gpus in consoles because they refuse to cut prices in any way.

also no console uses PC gfx cards, they are always custom made.

You do know when things are worded like that, he means equivalent or modified.

there probably could be away but if it was possible i still dont think we would see it included just like today the ps3 doesnt not have it even though some EU PS3s had ps2 B/C w/o the emotion eninge inside

its about dollars releases and online only releases bring in more money then lossing it trying to get it to work

No more clownin, but because that was done with PS2 does not mean that PS3 will be the same.  So no sir, that is not a fact.

They wouldn't make up some arbitrary number since a new console release depends on the state of the industry, technological advancements and competitors releasing their consoles. Fact. You can't decide 10 years in advance and Sony never have. Fact.

Yikes!! Some people want power, some people want BC.

What sony should want is a console $399.00 or less.

I am glad that AMD has nailed down the GPUs for all three consoles. Wish they had nailed the CPUs as well. Time to check those shares.
