i highly highly doubt we will see 4k this gen. atm even the most powerful gfx cards in PC can't get playable frame rates in most games in 2.5k

You got me there. I'm sure the twelve people that bought the Go will be very happy that can still play their games. 

I meant it exactly like I said it, but I should have clarified a bit more.

I suspect that if both consoles go with ATI GPU's they'll be of the same generation line (Both 6xxx's or 7xxx's), as I imagine both companies will play a much smarter game this time around.

not that I would appreciate no BC, but do you even have a PS3, mister Stark?  neither the next xbox nor Wii U will have "PS3 bc", so if you chose one of those that can only mean that the feature wasn't thaaat vital anyway, right?

Gotcha. I'm less convinced, though. The difference in performance AND cost between Northern Islands and Southern Islands is minor enough (especially between high-end NI and low-end SI) that I can easily see one thinking that the bump in cost is low enough to justify the slight graphics bump, while the other might think that the graphics bump is inconsequential enough that it's worth saving a few dollars.

I didn´t say Ps3 had no games, I said PS3 didn´t have games at launch or close to it that justified, from a consumers perspective, the price point. Sony can demand $600 for a machine, if there is gaming content that can´t be reproduced on any other machine, on consumers eyes, that is enough to justify price point.

The main reason why PS3 was expensive was because Sony wanted to make everyone happy. Make a strong machine to last a decade, exotic architecture and a PS2 inside for BC. That is just wrong in so many ways, make two skus one with BC and one without it or an add-on, whatever, just don´t make people invest $600 on a machine, that only has $450 worth of next gen hardware in it.

My point: You can demand $600 for a gaming machine, just make sure that money is invested in powerful hardware or sure "gimmicks", don´t demand that money for a PS4 with a PS3 in it, people will not buy it because there is a $400 xbox 720 that does the same thing (from a hardware perspective).

PS3 was advertised as the better machine, when in fact it only started to be the better machine in 2009 with U2. If they want to nail the next Gen, they advertise PS whatever as the best machine again, but this time around, they prove that from the get go with U4, with 2 skus and a BC add on.

Of course this power talk changes if somehow Sony discovers a Mario mascot that sells like crazy or a huge successful "gimmick" like Kinect, I hope they don´t

It is way too early to say that the PS4 will be using a more powerful graphics processor than the Xbox 720. If the PS4 doesn't release in until late 2013, then many MANY things can change over the course of that time frame.

And the WiiU or X720 not having BC for their respective platforms would also be extremely annoying to me.

I see, I always had the impression you only owned one of the current gen consoles.

The PS4 having BC would ofc be very convenient for me, but I'm more interested in what games/experiences the next gen console offer than in the ability to play the games I already played. As it's my policy to only buy 1 console per gen I'm used to having no BC anyway (I'm not loyal to any maker).
