Forums - Website Topics - Have the members/guest online dropped significantly?

1. How are we supposed to retain or even bring in new members with such an attitude? I blame the older members as well for the current state of things as I feel like they do not contribute to the growth of the new users and even the site as much as they could. Do you see new members not living up to the expectations? Help them instead of pointing fingers. The newer members are the one of the main reason why this site is active at least to the level it is right now.

2. I think there should be a reason for the lurkers to join this forum over countless other forums on the web. The trolling is at an all time high at the moment. A lot of Sony fans have left the site or have become extremely inactive now cuz of it. We saw a similar situation post E3 of the 3ds reveal. The sony forums were absolute shit with trolling topics and posts. Quite a few posters over there who used to post a LOT and some who were the reason I joined this place, just left.

3. I have personally stuck to the Official PSV thread and I enjoy it. We already had few new members who signed up just to post in the thread and we have something of a community going on inside the thread itself. The launch of a new console should be a REASON to light things up a bit. Discussing various games that's out for it, the features etc etc would have helped a great deal to this site imho. But as shown very clearly with that german award for vita thread, no decent conversation can be had outside the official thread and it's a real shame.

4. And now I'm gonna say something that has been on my mind for a while and I hope I won't be ticking people off with this. There is a fundamental problem with this site in my view. This place is built around the tracking of sales but I see two current problems with it

(1.) All the regions that tracked accurately, are also tracked by even more popular and widely accepted tracking agencies. For example: USA/Aussy: NPD, JP: Mediacreate and EU: Ninty and that other firm that tracks sales (forgot the name)
(2.) We had some huge adjustments. And I do not blame the staff, you have to make them when more concrete information comes out. But this with the addition of the above mentioned factor, does not bode well for the popularity of this site.

5. I'm EXTREMELY happy to see Gilga back..from the day he came back he has started make good threads and increase the overall activity of members. Montana seems to be doing a great job the moderation front as well. So I sincerely hope these trends keep up. These are relatively slow game news times as well so come E3 things should get more lively.

6. and someone please go hunt down darth and drag his ass in here

7. ps: oh and a request, maybe for the future revisions of this site, bring back stickys! At least 2-3 stickys per forum

1. Many new members are excellent, but a lot damage the forums, they need to contribute and undertand the site.

2. Okay, this has been bugging me for a while now, you need to stop playing victim here, trolling is similar everywhere, and it was huge last year when the 3DS was doing badly, you need to realize the trolling is not only against Sony products, that's your main issue on this site, all sides are equally guilty.

3. Read number 2, and BTW, the Vita thread is really good, one of the best threads for people interested in the Vita.

4. Well, as you said, there is nothing that can be done about it.

5. Agree.

6. Agree x 1000000.

7. Agree. The removal of Sticky basically killed Official Threads and many other features.

1. yes some do, but that is where the older members should step in and say stfu and bring them to the right path so to speak

2. victim? hardly. But if you think the level of trolling/hate the 3ds recieved was anywhere near comparable to the one the psv got, you are kidding yourself. When the 3ds was announced this whole site was abuzz about the 3d screen, games, 3rd party support etc etc. But at the same time even before the reveal or even rumors for vita, nintendo fans were making threads on how vita is dead on arrival. Let me give you another example, on the day Sony revealed the vita for the first time and even had a list of around 70 odd developers for it, we had 1-2 threads in the sony section on how third parties are abandoning the system. Like I said like in the example of the recent german award thread, the system gets trolled like crazy! I already joined two other sites and have the official vita thread bookmarked and rarely go into other threads here now. There is no room for proper discussion on the system

and fun fact, if you check the troll threads for 3ds, many were actually made BY Ninty fans. joelkool comes to mind. The sad thing here is however, the more this trolling and nonsensical hate goes on, the higher the chance ninty fans will have to face the same in the future, especially when the wiiu launches. It's never gonna end without some extremely strict moderatation.

Anywho this is just how see the current situation. I appreciate the support mods have shown the official thread by helping us to keep it clean.

For All News/Info related to the PlayStation Vita, Come and join us in the Official PSV Thread!

forum activity seems to have fallen by a fare bit.

I blame the way the foums have been spread out. It can be very clunky to navigate.

The problem is some people like talking bout games, others sales and others just off topic. But these members would cross over into all these catagories if a thread title looked interesting. Now that the site is so split up into sections they just stay into their little sections.

thus posting less and not comming on here as often because lack of conversation. I know i dont post on here anywhere as much as i used to. The site just "isnt the same" anymore.

3.0 seemed to be the best fot me, when it came to forum activity.

1. Can you really do that with many people? There is a particular user who just won't listen to anyone currently, and his bans and moderations are becoming more frequent.

2. Please, stop it.

I am not kidding myself, the trolling the 3DS got was huge, I still remember the "lolol 3DS outsells Wii in Japan!" by you in every Media Create thread back in 2011. Just because you like the Vita better, it doesn't mean the trolling rate is bigger. And I remember a lot of hype for the Vita, and a lot of doomed threads for the 3DS.

I am not saying the 3DS gets more hate, but that it does get hate, and a lot, and you fail to see that. Both consoles get smashed. WiiU will get trolled, PS4 will, 720 will. And you will have to accept the fact Sony fans have flaws too. As do Nintendo fans.

3. As a suggestion, please use CAPS properly, because the way you post does make you look like you're raging.

Edit: Also, about the German thread, everyone can have their own opinion, and while it is unfair if people complain about Vita getting the award, it's not bad if people say they disagree or if they do not like the Vita's design.

Its true for sure

A lot of the old school guys like me are leaving the site because it just honestly isn't as compelling as it was in the glory days. Honestly the new users aren't nearly as interesting and there is some heavy anti MS bias in the forums which has always been a problem with keeping a good numbers of 360 fans.

Not to mention the tracking on this site has become poor. Honestly the pre-order numbers are beyond laughably bad.

Well, everytime we try being edgy and exciting, we get banned!

OT: It has, since I've been here anyways. I see maybe 2 or 3 unique members a day and I check this site about 4 or 5 times a day for short intervals. I think that's what people are doing. They are not spending all this time you the older folks have, racking up points and posts and badges and threads per day. Personally, being a new member (I started posting sometime in 2011), I don't know any of you, I don't really care to and I don't want to spend anymore than 20 minutes at a time in here. I come here for small, fast talks and news about videogames.

Granted, the community is pretty nice but immature overall. I know cause I am too. People are more interesting in trolling and arguing than actually discuss. I don't see that know a day, except for a few threads (The Walking Dead thread) where people are actually discuss things in a proper manner.

I have a link to the old site from about 2 years ago. When I get on my computer I willpost it. It was about the same. Just a lot of lurkers.

Let me help you I forgot of my evolution of vg chartz from 1.0 to 5.0  thread.

VGchartz 1.0 - users online 29, guest 214

VGchartz 2.0 - users online 139, guest 533

VGchartz 3.0 - users online 364, guest 1423

Vgchartz 4.0 - users online 263, guest 1975

Vgchartz 5.0 - users online 123, guest 2600

So looks as though I was off with guest but still theres a patern...the one and only site design everyone loved and wish stayed 3.0 was when Vgchartz peaked. Lurkers kept going up though.

Would bmore interesting if you put a date or timeline for all thoughts update

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

Well I tried to join over a month earlier than I did, but I never received an activation email, and I use gmail. I'm not really sure what went wrong, but it took several emails to a couple different spots until I got a response. Maybe new members are being cut off because of some server issue? So membership loss is outweighing membership gain due to difficulty of registration?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Meh, I love this site..

Yay!!!

The site can be time consuming. I know I am not as active as I used to be, simply because I have to study and do other stuff to . I know a couple of guys from here whom think the same, and they dont use the site at all, or just lurk.

I also agree that the forum is waaaay to messy. We should probably have fewer categories, so it could be easier to navigate

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

This site was just about right before it was split into sections and tried to become too diverse.
Now it tries to do everything and the phrase 'jack of all trades, master of none' springs to mind.
There are parts of this site I never even venture into now, just because it is just too all over the place.

Maybe I see it from an original members persepective and just don't like any change but to me it does now seem like many other faceless, run of the mill gaming sites, unlike before when it seemed to have something different to offer.
