Well then why didn't the PSP win this too? They look the same...

Ya and the ds and 3ds look damn similar too =p Looks of the console mean nothing, it's what it does that makes the difference.

Whats the innovation? The back touch pad? Or the two analoug sticks? The award needs to say why it won, what made it win.

From the website. Took 10 seconds.

Degree of innovation

Is the product new in itself or does it supplement an existing product with a new, desirable quality?

Functionality

Does the product fulfil all requirements of handling, usability, safety, and maintenance, and does the manual explain its use in a comprehensible way?

Ergonomics

Is the product adapted appropriately to the physical and, if necessary, psychic conditions of the user?

Self-explanatory quality

What does the product convey about its purpose and use without knowing the manual? How distinct are product semantics and product graphics?

Formal quality

How logical is the constructive structure and the congruity of the formal composition? How is the form related to the function?

Ecological compatibility

Are materials, material costs, manufacturing technology and energy consumption in an appropriate proportion to the product utility? To what extent have disposal problems and recycling issues been considered?

Durability

Have the product’s material, formal, and non-material value been designed for a long life-span?

Symbolic and emotional content

What does the product offer the user beyond its immediate practical purpose in terms of sensual quality, possibilities of a playful use or emotional attachment?

Product periphery

How is the product as part of a system integrated into the system environment? How have packaging and disposal issues been solved?

Well there it is lol

Thanks for giving me the rules, does it say anything about how/why it won? Which categories that you've posted up there that it won in?

I imagine its holistic; every product is judged by these same criteria, making allowances for limitations of particular products, it's not a simple score out of 10 for each one.

Thanks. It would be nice if the actual company provided examples on why it won, not just saying that it won.

@pezus Can we mention Microsoft? But, they already won this award.

Yes, yes, 3DS and DS should have won those too and Wii U also. Now that's out of the way and we can actually discuss the Vita without mentioning Nintendo

Was this supposed to be QFE?

@NintendoPie I can't quote on my computer correctly. That's why I did this.

True, but publishing hours of no doubt specialist debate isn't the norm for these kind of awards. You just have to be satisfied that the Vita satisfied these categories more than any other product submitted.

Here's again what I posted above:

The PSP Go won this award as well, two years ago.

Here's all other products from Sony which won the awards over the years:
http://en.red-dot.org/2866.html?&cHash=b0968b0ec7993ad8b231490e7d0bdfc7&company=751

Even Microsoft one a few of them over the years:

Unsuprisingly many Apple products won got the award as well over the years:

It seems no Nintendo product won the award up to now. I think the Wii design should have deserved one, but that's just me.

The Wii, DS, and the upcoming Wii U should all win the awards. The DS was the first to market Touch screens and it also had that all new clamshell design with two screens, the Wii was the first to market motion control and is the most succesful, the Wii U's controller conept is very intriguing and can be used in compliment with the games on the big screen.

Whoa I just popped in here to read an article .......*slowly backs out*
