"China produces almost all of the world’s rare earth minerals, but it’s not keen on selling them to other nations. Export restrictions keep most of the valuable metals in the country. According to the U.S., these restrictions unfairly allow China to hoard the minerals for its own use."
This article makes little sense to me. First and for most, I didn't read it all the way, because it wasn't making much sense. It says minerals, but the only rare thing they talk about is the Lithium for batteries used in Hybrids and electronics. It talks about "China producing them." China can't produce minerals, it either has large deposits or it doesn't. If they said that China refine the lithium, then I would better understand it.
Second If China has these large deposits of "Minerals" then no one in the world can force them to mine their own soil for them, but it doesn't make sense because as I know it, most of the lithium found has been coming from South American and they recently found a large deposit in Afghanistan. (May give a hint on why we are there)
Third,.. I don't have one. I just wanted to give my two cents, since many people here probably don't know anything and just going by what the article says.
I only know this much from what I've read and listen to in the news, so when I hear this. It strikes me as very odd because I never knew that China had large deposits of lithium. And as I know it, this is really all the rare "minerals" that matter to other countries. I can't think of anything else in a Hybrid or an Iphone that can't be mined or collected from other regions of the planet. I knew from the start that China had a large amount of natural resources and a good variety, but this article makes it sound very extreme.
