Yes China has 10x the man-power, but this is 2012. There isn't a single country that can even remotely compete with the US armed forces due to its sheer technological advancements over the rest of the world.

if a war between China and the US did break out...

1.) It would turn into the next World War.

2.) it would be devestating

3.) it would be remarkably difficult for invaders the invade the USA. (It would HAVE to be done via the AIR as the American coastlines (even outside the USA) are to well protected. china would have to launch every ship in its fleet to the coast of a south American country without the US discovering them (by shooting out all allied controlled satellites), march/fly a thousand+ miles to the USA border while fighting other nations for a naval invasion to work. And that would leave China's mainland completely defenseless.

That's not even taking into account the hate the governments of other powerful ally countries have for communist China. Its logistically impossible for China to win a major war against a major power. Particularly the USA.

You forgot how much in debt the US is in.

Not really, I beg to differ.  USA would just have to go Fascist and declare all debt null.  Would this hurt their currency?  Yes, but they could just pump out military goods (aka WW2).  In the end it doesn't matter how much money you owe when you show up with tanks and planes (aka Germany, WW2).

No. I've pointed out in above posts that, as a member of WTO, they have certain obligations. This breaks one of those obligations, and so the USA, Japan, and Europe are taking this to the WTO to get something done about it. WTO is supposed to encourage as much free trade as possible between nations, this is a massive protectionist policy which the WTO has rules against. You can't get all the benefits of the WTO, while breaking the rules.

It's just a turn of phrase, I don't know what the exact wording means.

Basically, I take it to mean - you can either be the one who cuts the cake, or the person who chooses the slice. You can't be both (if you're sharing a cake, that is. If you're eating a cake on your own a) do what you want; b) you have a severe eating disorder).

meanwhile i have googled the subject and i know what it supposed to mean now, i bleieve it would be much clearer if the actual wording was:

"You can't keep the cake AND eat it"

Sadly, that is the way I see the USA going.  I mean USA could make some real changes and actually balance their budget/start making surplus but that would require politicians to actually have some balls to go after the main culprits military, medicare, and social security.
