Nintendo already has an achievement system called stars and coins. Collect enough of them in one of their games and you unlock hidden levels, items, etc..

This must be for the 3DS cause I know it's not on the Wii.  Can you give me an example of how this system works, meaning, do you find a star or coin in the game or do you have to do something to earn the star and coin?  Thanks!

NSMB Wii get coins and unlock levels.  MK Wii get stars to unlock more classes, karts, characters, etc..  Basically, what they have been doing for awhile in most if not all their games.

I will be purchasing the WiiU day 1 regardless but I was wondering if they will have some type of Achievement/Trophy system like the 360 and PS3.  I think its very important for them because it adds a little replay value to the games. I was thinking something like a Bronze Mushroom, Silver Flower and Gold Star to represent Nintendo.  What you guys think?

I really like this system of achievements cause it's screams Nintendo.  However, I don't think there needs to be any changing of the mushroom, flower, and star.  I say just leave them their normal colors.  By adding bronze, silver, and gold to the mix it kind of makes it seem as if they're coping Sony and little too much.  I also say add a Crown for when the gamer collects all the Mushrooms, Flowers, and Stars in the game.

Why is it that Mario = Nintendo?

Why can we have.. I don't know Rupees? Warp Stars? Maxim Tomatoes? Pokéballs? Power/Varia/Gravity Suits? etc.

Or hell maybe even have a Smash Bros.-esque trophy system that gives you collectable, more tangible trophies rather than the point system.

I'm all for whatever they decide to use for their achievement system.  As for Mario = Nintendo, well, the most famous character of Nintendo's is Mario.  It's kinda their mascots of sorts, I would think, isn't it?

Been wondering that for years.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

@ShadowFest3

Yes, Mario is Nintendo's Mascot and will be until they disband as a company. I'm just saying that Mario shouldn't set the standard for an achievement system. Maybe every game should have its own trophies rather than lumping Mario specific trophies.

Pixel Art can be fun.

But the point of an achievement system on the Wii U would be to appeal to the hardcore. As soon as you use Nintendo IP stuff as trophies, you contradict the intention.

Having the word Wii in the console again would be good enough excuse for those people.  Wii what a stupid name!  Xbox and Playstation are such manly and awesome names!

Well, I was just giving a suggestion.  What you have come up with is just as good.  Whatever Nintendo decides to do, whether it's something simple, something complex, or nothing at all it won't matter to me cause I'll be buying a Wii U regardless .

Aren't they using the Nintendo Game Coins like on 3DS?

Only for people that can walk around with their system.  To require some people to walk is asking for too much.

Thank god that shaking the system also works. I didn't get my first coin until ten months after I got my 3DS.

Great thanks you just gave me a dirty thought of you vigorously shaking the system while on the internet channel.  I usually try to take mine with me when I walk to the mail box at my apartments then I walk around for a little more to get the 10 coins.

Collect all 120 stars in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and you get to collect even more stars. Collect all of these as well and you unlock another level.

Collect star coins in NSMB Wii to unlock additional levels.

Basically, playing just the game itself is already rewarding enough, so you don't need to get messages for successfully creating a save file (no joke) or clearing the first level of a game to feel better about yourself. Achievements and trophies are just systems that are put in place to create some artificial value.

Oh, I see what you mean.  My friends and I do love trying to get all of the Stars for each level in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
