An here are the cockpit photos I found. I avoided any night time pictures as I didn't think ti was a fair comparison. Couldn't find anywhere near as many as I would've liked, though. I'll have to search for more after this.

Oh I will agree GT5 looks amazing too. I put Forza 3, 4 and GT5 well above Uncharted IMHO. However GT5 being in my list of top 3 doesn't make PS3 the definite graphics king, and Forza 4 is better. There are threads with back to back comparissions...heck there was one mega thread which asked people to vote, and Forza 4 won, on a website with a large number of PS3 fans..

No no no!  GT5 is obviously better since it's 1080p, not 720p like Forza 4 is. :P

Both are 720p. GT5 is only 1080p when viewing cars in the garage and when you take a photo. GT5 does has 1080p vertical resolution, but has frequent frame rate drops to 30FPS (lower in 3D), even in optimal 12 person driving, no weather. Forza 4 holds a constant 60 FPS.

GT5 looks more like Forza 3, with the difference being car models look better in GT5 (for the limited cars that have them).

I don't think the game ever dropped to 30fps on my system, or at the very least, it sure isn't so bad that my eyes notice it.  But you're free to over-exaggerate the issue to suit your agenda.

In the end, the result is a still very smooth result running at a resolution higher than Forza 4.  And you said that graphics king should be 1080p... So, take a stance and keep it, will ya? :P

Now that's a much better argument, and a much more sensible point that I can agree with parts of at least. However, as you say yourself, the goal here is to find the "better" console, yet nobody is doing that. The PS3 does graphics excellently for very linear and scripted games as illustrated by games like God of War III and Uncharted 3, but what about open world games? Or 60 FPS games? The 360 is better than the PS3 at those, but the "call" is being made from a single category of games.

They each have their strengths, with the PS3 being "stronger" in linear games and the 360 being "stronger" in open world games, yet everyone is looking at the prettiest screenshots and the prettiest gifs they can find and basing their judgement solely on that.

I'd argue that inFamous 2, an open world game, is one of the best looking game of its genre on console.
To find better you have to go for multiplatform games.  Like Red Dead Redemption and Skyrim.  Which fared better on the 360, the PS3 getting the port versions.

I wonder how those 2 examples would have fared if they had been tailored for the PS3's architecture first and foremost, or if they had been developed by a first party studio.

No doubt that inFamous 2 is very good looking, I'm by no means trying to say that the PS3 isn't good at open world games. That would be like saying that the 360 isn't good for doing highly linear and scripted games on, which is of course not true.

And indeed both RDR and Skyrim could have been improved if the developers hadn't had to accomodate other systems than the PS3, but the same goes if they had been 360 exclusives too, so it's hard to tell just what the impact might have been.

That's great, but I do not think Forza 4 or GT5 can stand up to the games I've previously posted pictures of. Comparing graphics of racing games vs third person action games/fps is a tricky business, but I think, for me, the difference in quality is obvious enough to make that call.

On IGN it got runner up (which means it came second, probably a close second). I'm sure on other websites it came first.

...

Actually IGN gave Cyrsis 1 best graphics over Uncharted 1, and UC3 beat Crysis 2. I don't think the differences in general are that huge if one year one looks better, and the next the other does.

As a man who collected 180+ awards for UC3, I assure you that is NOT the case LOL.

...

Crysis 1 was on the PC against one of the first exclusive games of the PS3. Its not the "next year" it's several years after where Crytek made a PS3/360 version and it just couldn't beat UC3 there. They even made the game less open in contrast to Crysis 1. Difference in general isnt that huge because the predecessors squared off 4 years ago? It's completely different games lmao.

FYI MGS4 got more graphic awards than Crysis Warhead funny enough. Sure it's not a full game, but I still find that "lol" because I disagree with it.

UC2 had little to no contest in 2009 despite KZ2 being there.

God of war 3 slaughtered in 2010, I am willing to allow you to prove me wrong.

For UC3, see 2010.

I accept your opinion, I simply disagree. But I am merely trying to tell you how the world see/saw it. Denial much?

God of War 3 got Runner up in 2010, just like Mass Effect 2....

at one site, GOW3 won the vast majority of best graphics awards.

Since you have it tabulated, how many GOTY awards did ME2 get in 2010 compared to GoW 3?

we are talking graphics, not GOTY.

How about Alan Wake and Heavy Rain (include # of runner ups for both)

what does this have to do with anything? what does it even mean?

2009 Killzone 2 was runner up to UC2, but so was Alan Wake 2.

what does this mean, how can killzone be the runner up, if alan wake was the runner up, which one is it. again UC2 won easily over 90% of best graphics, with Killzone taking the majority of the rest, and i dont know of any place that gave Alan wake best graphics, which is like 540p or something.

In E3 2008 Gears of War 2 won best graphics (Over Killzone 2, and Crysis Warhead), but MGS4 won for the year.

killzone 2 came out in 2009, why compare it to GeOW2 which came out in 2008. also MGS4 won more best graphics, as did crysis, and i believe even GTAIV.

Also P.S. Crysis on XBLA and PSN doesn't look that different then Crysis on PC. Crysis > Uncharted, but UC3 > Crysis. Overall, the verdict, your crazy to care about small differences like this. Get a PC, play any game in 1080p, and then hush. Your comparing games that look nearly identical in 720p and sub 720p, when any of these games look much much better on Pc in native 1080p.

you are talking about others going crazy about this stuff, but look in the mirror, you cant even accept things that are pretty much well established. in almost every reputable site, including sites like DF or what ever the other site is, lens something. you will see its usually considered (not direct lists but, taking into account of what they say about said game). best graphics are UC3>KZ3>GOW3>UC2>KZ2> then perhaps Crysis2 (sometimes crysis is listed above KZ2, which is funny since KZ2 is 720p with locked 30fps, and good AA).

Again....ah never mind...

What a pointless thread. Folks get way to caught up in the crap, who cares what game looks the best. If I had to rank the top 5 things that make a game, graphics would be probably at the bottom or second to last.

Gameplay>story>controls>music=graphics imo.

You're talking as if a game with good graphics automatically cannot be proficient in the other 4 categories. What a silly argument.

Spike....is just terrible. They didn't nominate Super Mario Galaxy as GOTY Material in 2007 and got chastized so much Skyward Sword was an auto contender this year.

You also clerverly avoided my questions. How many Best Graphics awards did ME2 get and GoW3? I really doubt a lot more. Same with Alan Wake vs. Heavy Rain

those games are all from the same year. and GOW3 the most. furthermore you seem to be the only one mentioning Heavy Rain, i havent seen anybody else bring it up, in fact the same goes for ME2 and Alan Wake. what do they have anything to do with, they didnt win many if at all best graphics.

....

I'm just going to point something out. You said UC3>UC2>KZ3>KZ2 as the top 4 best graphics on consoles, right? IGN said Gears 2 is above Killzone 2, (where, when, link?) and Gears 3 is a huge upgrade on that. So I do agree UC2>Gears 3 (who are you agreeing with> yourself? no site i can think of has said such a thing, most sites didnt even mention gears 3 for best graphics, and sites like DF said Gears had to make great sacrifices for the level of detail they had, with screen tearing, dropped frame rate, and forgoing any AA.), but the difference isn't that big, and in the end racing sim like Forza and GT5 look much much better.

IMHO Forza 4>GT5=Forza 3>UC3>Gears3>UC2>ME2=KZ3>KZ2=GoW3

If you disagree, that's your own personal opinion, not a concensus.

I don't know where I would put Mass Effect 3 as I want to beat ME2 before playing it.

no thats false, GT5's native resolution is 1080p (1280x1080) just check DF are any other site.

GT5 = 1080p always (you can choose 720p with more AA). and frame rate analysis shows GT5 is usualy around 50fps, and thats when the game first launched many things have been improved sense.

Forza = 720p always. with frame rate usually around 59-60fps. and they had to make great sacrifices to get 16 cars at the same time like gt5 has. and it still doesnt have weather effects or day night transistions
