i'd say this doesnt look like it belongs into a current-gen Game, but then again, you dont have 120 other people working together with you to achieve this. *laughs*

i agree, i am quite impressed, i think there is some potential right here.

Oh and i want to see a game with that mole that appears around 1:55 lol, he's brilliant.

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

nice! how did you make this? wich program did you use?

Thanks :P For which part ?
I've used 3ds max for the animations themselves :P

But multiple programs were used for various things like texturing, editing and even tracking of objects in the second music video. :P

If you want me to elaborate just let me know what you wanna know about exactly :P

I want to make something like this too but I have zero knowledge :( Do you know where I can start learning to make things like this? Ive heard about 3Ds max, what are those other programs you used? :)

Well, A very good way to start out, is to find a modding community, as they will often have a lot of tutorials that are guided towards a specific game, where you can set a goal for yourself to achieve and then work towards that. That's how I started out originally.

Alternatively, a search on google gave me these sites that seem to cover beginning with 3ds max if you don't want to find a modding community to invest your time in:
http://www.maxbasics.com/
http://www.tutorialchip.com/tutorials/25-autodesk-3ds-max-tutorials-for-beginners/

3ds max is in general more game focused, while a different program, maya, learns more towards movie production. So you have to concider what you're the most interested in, though both can be used for both (as far as I know)

You should be able to find trials of both programs on google, and then ofcourse, theres the free gmax, which granted, is pretty old, but it's free so it's usable. It's basically a limited version of an older version of 3ds max. :P

There are also a host of other programs out there, but those are the most wellknown and are used by proffesionals in the industry.

For things such as textures which are the surfaces of every object, you should either go with photoshop or alternatively, the free gimp.

Video editing can be done in everything from movie maker to sony vegas. There are trials out there for the more advanced programs for you to try out.

I'm not gonna go into great detail about tracking, but some programs, allow you to check where an object is in footage, then keep track of that, which in terms enable you to post other footage on top of it, which then follows the tracked object, so it looks like the new object were a part of the original shot :P
It's pretty cool, but you'll probably want to learn stuff like 3d animation first. I used that technique for the second music video, in the forrest.

I hope that helps :P

@Crystalchild.

That is true :P And thanks.
The mole at 1.55 is actually in a game, Invasion Of The Killer moles which i'm currently working on. It'll be playable in a webbrowser and free. Now, when you think webbrowser games, you think "shit" but it's a little like time crisis, and in a full 3d setting.. Oh and it's singleplayer :P

I'll send you a link when i finish it at some point. Should be either late this month, or if it drags out, sometime next month. :P..Since I'm making everything from the code to the 3D.. Except for the music. I have someone else who does that :P

@SethNintendo.

What ? :P - The Killzone thing ? Well the idea was that the round shapes were supposed to be dots on a tactical map, or soldiers moving through corridors covering each-other. But sure, I guess I can see what you mean, kinda :P

Nice. Something cool and interesting. Really like that creature or robot at around 2 minute mark. Keep the good work.

Question: Does one need to be really good at math for making games, coding and animations?

Thank you :P I think I managed a neat look for my moles. It's version 2 of them though, the original models, when I started the game, basically looked like thumbs with eyes and a mouth :P

To your question, I would say no. It helps, but It's not required. Despite what anyone else might tell you. I'm horrible at math, and I manage.
It's mostly important in code, but even there, you should be able to solve your problems without being good at math, some of the problems just might take slightly longer to solve, or your solution to solving them might have to be creative :P

It's a fun thing, because code works in the way that you define what it means, so if you define that this thing is a fireball, then tell it how to  behave and add a fireball object to the code, it is a fireball.

If you're interested in 3d I wrote some stuff about that above, If you're interested in coding, I'd recommend looking at "the walker boys" unity course. It teaches you how to understand and apply scripts inside of unity, and it managed to make me understand how coding can, and does work, despite my university failing at that. So it's a really good course :P It's also completely free and has tons of content. If you're really interested in coding, it's a great place to start:

Wow, that's some pretty impressive stuff, nice work! I'm in animation myself but nowhere near that level yet. I'm still getting my feet wet with 2D stuff in Flash/After Effects for the most part before I get more into 3D, though I have done a little bit of Maya and UDK. I think I ultimately want to model environments in games, which seems to be a lot of what is in your portfolio. What sort of programs did you use for those models and animations?

Thanks a lot :P It's a lot about practice. I've done some flash stuff, but not a whole lot. It didn't appeal that much to me.. Though I like what you can do with the program. Never worked in maya and only took a small look at UDK as I was debating wether to start working in that or unity before I settled for unity :P though I did make some stuff in UT2004s editor back in the day.

Well, I used different versions of 3ds max, which, to my knowledge is more geared towards game than maya is, so I definately think you should give it a look. Theres also a free to use version of max called Gmax which can be found online, though you should know, it's severely limited compared and based on a very old version.
I started out, modding command & conquer renegade, which is why a lot of the stuff is based in the c&c universe, though it should be noted, there are older and horrible versions of things like the vehicles, and my older maps looks like something that could be in pacman(almost), so if you don't make something great right away, it's not that you're doing it wrong(most likely), it's that you're learning and it does take time getting really good to create something you envision :P you can drop me a messege if you need a few pointers or help with anything. I posted some links to tutorial sites earlier in the thread, and also mentioned that a good way to go, is to join a modding community, since they will often help you get started. That does require time investment though :P Just so you know.

@Zero 129
thanks man :D i appreciate that, and I hope so.
I want to release it for phones, but licensing of the engine I use for a base model for either android or ios costs 400 us dollars, which is a bit more than I can afford right now. I do hope that with it's release, I'll be able to gear up some interest in a phone port :P It's not really the longest or most advanced game, but as it is, it'll run in your browser, it'll have full voice acting.. and lots of shooting at moles :P I'll drop you a messege when the web version is finished.
I've been fiddling with the idea that If it does manage to generate enough interest, I'd add some new levels and things while porting to add some more incentive to replay the game. (though I have a few other ideas that might also help people want to replay it)

This is one of the promo pics for the game:

Yes, it's very cheesy :P It's supposed to be though, So it's okay.

With the interest in moles in the thread, i'm pretty confident about posting a thread dedicated to it when I finish the web game :P Ofcourse I hope that people are going to like it, and perhaps even send it to their friends or share it over things like facebook. Now that would be awesome :)

I really like your art style,
the tanks remind me of WDL Thunder tanks game on PS2 , and the FPS part reminds me of No One Lives Forever, I'll deffo play your game if you make one.

Thanks man !
The whole thing I tried to do with my total conversion modification, was to create a more gritty first person command & conquer game where everything looked as though they could be from a real world. :P I like the overall look of the thing. Unfortunately, the tools  were very developer unfriendly, and interest in the game, while not gone, was difficult to maintain. If you want to see more of it, you can have a look at http://www.moddb.com/mods/rise-of-apocalypse

Unfortunately I haven't updated there for about two-maybe three years :P so a lot of the stuff from the trailer is not something you'll find there. I'm also unhappy with some models and the trailers for the mod, but that's just how it is. It's a part of my learning experience.
Regarding the "fps" thanks :P You should know it's not a real FPS though. It's more like time crisis. I originally started making it, in order for me to learn how to script .. It just evolved a lot more than I had expected, as my abilities grew a lot faster than I thought they would :) Which is pretty nice. I'm not saying I'm good or anything, but it's like a whole new world of possibilities were entered when I wrapped my head around how it works.

@zero129

wow thanks :) that's pretty awesome to hear ! Though I don't think Ioi would approve much of me trying directly to raise donations on here, I am considering, since the game does not take up the full screen, to allow people to donate towards expanding the game to phones, and with that, expanding upon the game with additional content through something that I'd place outside of the gamescreen. I also wouldn't want anyone to feel ripped off, so i'd definitely wait till the regular web version was done, and tell people who played it, that If it's something they find worth supporting, they could donate towards it. I will certainly make a thread about the game when the time comes. Though I don't want to hype it too much :P It's not exactly a call of duty. It's more like Duckhunt meets Time Crisis :P .. With moles .. And some other ideas thrown in there. I don't want to sell invasion of the killer moles short either, I just fear being judged on it alone, while having raised expectations too highly, since it'll be my first released title and I'll be able to make something more advanced afterwards with everything I've learned :P

Regardless of that, it's awesome that you want to play it ! It's gonna be very interesting to see what people think when they get their hands on it :P
