Well, A very good way to start out, is to find a modding community, as they will often have a lot of tutorials that are guided towards a specific game, where you can set a goal for yourself to achieve and then work towards that. That's how I started out originally.
Alternatively, a search on google gave me these sites that seem to cover beginning with 3ds max if you don't want to find a modding community to invest your time in:
http://www.maxbasics.com/
http://www.tutorialchip.com/tutorials/25-autodesk-3ds-max-tutorials-for-beginners/
3ds max is in general more game focused, while a different program, maya, learns more towards movie production. So you have to concider what you're the most interested in, though both can be used for both (as far as I know)
You should be able to find trials of both programs on google, and then ofcourse, theres the free gmax, which granted, is pretty old, but it's free so it's usable. It's basically a limited version of an older version of 3ds max. :P
There are also a host of other programs out there, but those are the most wellknown and are used by proffesionals in the industry.
For things such as textures which are the surfaces of every object, you should either go with photoshop or alternatively, the free gimp.
Video editing can be done in everything from movie maker to sony vegas. There are trials out there for the more advanced programs for you to try out.
I'm not gonna go into great detail about tracking, but some programs, allow you to check where an object is in footage, then keep track of that, which in terms enable you to post other footage on top of it, which then follows the tracked object, so it looks like the new object were a part of the original shot :P
It's pretty cool, but you'll probably want to learn stuff like 3d animation first. I used that technique for the second music video, in the forrest.
I hope that helps :P
@Crystalchild.
That is true :P And thanks.
The mole at 1.55 is actually in a game, Invasion Of The Killer moles which i'm currently working on. It'll be playable in a webbrowser and free. Now, when you think webbrowser games, you think "shit" but it's a little like time crisis, and in a full 3d setting.. Oh and it's singleplayer :P
I'll send you a link when i finish it at some point. Should be either late this month, or if it drags out, sometime next month. :P..Since I'm making everything from the code to the 3D.. Except for the music. I have someone else who does that :P
@SethNintendo.
What ? :P - The Killzone thing ? Well the idea was that the round shapes were supposed to be dots on a tactical map, or soldiers moving through corridors covering each-other. But sure, I guess I can see what you mean, kinda :P
