No wait, Microsoft... how could they invert the position of the A and B (and X and Y) from the standard - it's impossible for any nintendo fan to play that thing! And how could they name buttons " " and " " on the original Xbox controller too?

Triangle represents viewpoint, for camera control. I also associate it with an arrow. It was jump in many games.
square represents a piece of paper, instantly recognizable as the final fantasy character sheet button.
x in Japan means no
circle in Japan means yes (instead of check)

All the buttons actually have a significance. Best designed buttons ever.

Sony's design is so good it influenced countless controllers around the world... wait! And why nobody say Cross instead of X.

BTW, it's not just me talking... there was an old EGM (one of the first, if not the first revealing the xbox, I'l try t find it when I get home) that showed that Microsoft did an extensive research to design the Xbox joystick. And the guy said something like "nobody likes this shit" for the PS buttons. They also made the cord extra long and designed the triggers based on this research!

 

Anyway: I really hate the time it takes to say the names, in my language, triangle is a four syllable word!!! Four! And A is A.

The letters really don't have any meaning whatsoever. Once you know where the buttons are, you always know. You don't really have to look at the controller, do you? In the scheme of things, the letters are just as much symbols as the PS symbols.

Maybe you didn't saw it, but I added a sentence to my previous post soon after I wrote it.

My point is, what's more practical?

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A B

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right Triangle Square

You can add a triangle symbol there, ocupying the same space as a letter, but you'll still going to think "triangle", and you're still going to say "triangle". It's sometimes cumbersome, here the word is TRI-ÂN-GU-LO. A lot of people here call Circle "bola" (ball) instead of Círculo because of that, trying to simplify. X instead of Cross is the same. Simple phonetics... simpler sounds are easier to say. And of course people get used to it, they get used to worse things... but it's flawed from the start because it's harder to get used.

i don't like the playstation so much because i fucking hate the controller. i have a playstation 3 but i buy every multi-game for my 360 even if i could get the ps3 version cheaper just because of the controller. but that doesn't mean that i don't like sony i just don't like to play on the playstation so much because this one stupid thing and sony has the best exclusives so really no reason why i shouldn't like the company (but i don't see a reason why i should like or dislike any company if they don't get money with fraud)

no clue if i'm an oldschool gamer i started with nes and c64.

nope,old school gamer here,don't hate sony,infact i enjoy my gaming,i even like the controller ,i had atari,zx81,spectrum,commodore,bbc,acorn,amiga,amstrad,sega,pc,sony machines over the years not sure if it counts without nintendo,apparently not
