Forums - Nintendo - The Binding of Isaac eShop release blocked by Nintendo. "Questionable Religious Content"

Lol your last sentance, I think circumcision against babies should be a crime

Unless it poses health risks not having it done.

Like you saw in my post, I remained neutral on the matter. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, that's part of tolerance. However, as much as tolerance of beliefs is important, sensitivity towards beliefs also is. The Binding of Isaac is going a tad too far in demonizing things.

But that's just the begining of OP right? Next question comes is, what does Nintendo do about it? :)

This is the first time I have heard of this game, so I looked up a gameplay video. It's a mixture of classic Zelda (dungeons only, no overworld) and Robotron that looks like a glorified flash game.

I don't know why this game even needs references to religion, but oh well...

Sex sells? Blasphemy sells. Believe it or not.

Yes, that's a good reason. And one more why this game sucks.

I hope indie developers stay away from Nintendo systems.

Not all Indie games are like that Rol :) I was even following a thread on Gaf where people from the community were making games on XBLIGs. I saw some gameplay of some of their games, here was one!

Kind of like a hybrid between Metroid and Ninja Gaiden.

While it is my favorite indie game to date, I think you can say it is done in poor taste and really Nintendo and Microsoft who want to reflect some what of having some "family values" should most likely avoid, unless they believe that this will go so under the radar that no "family" organization will pick it up.

Note I excluded Sony, because they seem to be going after the core gaming demographic and can take a risk with this, since the casual family demographic seems to be in large not that responsive to them.

I totally agree with the poor taste part.

For bold, that's the thing that gets me. If these guys (Ninty and MS) want to become #1, they need to cater to all demographics, and just ensure that the ESRB does its job right. It's not because SMeatB is on your plat that the plat is not geared to families anymore. They need to think of their platforms a bit like a movie player. It plays everything, not just games geared to their target audience, but games geared to their target audience + Everyone else.

That's what a #1 manufacturer does.

Tbh, I don't think mature vs family is the reasoning here (if it does I am dissappoint in Nint). I think it was more due to anti-religious tones that Nintendo doesn't want on their platform. As Viper said a rape game wouldn't go too far either. There's a happy medium between

  • audience-only (just what my customers want) content support,
  • Movie-like (mostly all accepted, safe blacklisted movies) content support and
  • Internet-like (practically anything and everything) content support.

STEAM DOES WHAT NINTENDON'T

can't belive there's already 15 posts and noone though about it :D

I didn't mean religious content when I said that. Indie developers create trash, that's the problem. Some may consider these games artsy or whatever, but I am not the kind of guy who is sipping wine while playing video games.

The video you posted is a good example for why indie games suck. It's junk that is passed off as resembling classic games. The poster child of this is Cave Story.

I don't know what you're talking about. The game I linked to clearly has interesting platforming mechanics. But you probably don't understand game making so this is not interesting to you.

This is likely just a PR decision. Too many religious fanatics in the US.

I, however, would welcome a game like this on the 3DS. Religions need to be made fun of as much as possible.

Funny you should say that... the demo is available in Flash game format.

yeah.. played demo... story is obviously trying to offend. Game might be overall very good, I like zelda-esque feel, however, story doesn't need to be anti-religious. Especially considering the greater majority of all people have that story in their faith (Jew, Christian, Muslim).

The only people who deserve to be made fun of are people such as yourself.
