Metascore

Generally favorable reviews - based on 28 Critics

Due to "questionable religious content", the release of The Binding of Isaac by Super Meat Boy designer Edmund McMillen has been canceled on the Nintendo eShop. McMillen used his twitter account to confirm the situation.

"Attention: After a long internal debate Nintendo has decided NOT to allow the Binding of Isaac on the 3ds. :("

"As many assumed the reasons were due to the games ’questionable religious content [...] Thank GOD Steam exists!"

Don't know much about this game but was it any good? Was anyone planning on picking it up?

I have it but never played (stupid STEAM SALES!)

But I think it's okay for Nintendo to block things on their systems. Their right.
I'm sure some sicko wants to play rapelay on 3ds, but... yeah, no, not gonna happen.

Excellent game(Very addictive game), but borderline um how to I put it ....oh "questionable religious content". By questionable it is really not that questionable......it is borderline.....

Given I am not a religious person I do not care as a reflection of me, but I think it is better if any game Nintendo passes up for being too mature, it might as well be this one.

I can see how the game can offend people (it is anti-judaism in all honesty).

HOWEVER, Nintendo has no place to choose on this kind of thing, especially when the ESRB is there to judge this kind of matter.

I have mixed feelings about it.

Is it anti or pro?

Um, it is very anti-christianity (At most you can say all the Abrahamic Religions....)

I was never really interested in this game but now I MUST play it!

I remember back in the day when Xenogears was almost not released stateside due to "Sensitive religious content" and I ended up LOVING that game. Also to be completely honest I didn't see what the big fuss was about and probably won't see the big fuss here as well.

Any way to get this besides Steam? My laptop broke a month or so ago so that is out of the question.

Given how it mostly shows how Isaac (the crying baby) is running for his life, it completely counters the message of atonement as portrayed in the book of Genesis. It also demonizes the event by portraying the binding as an unholy murder, whereas in the biblical story it was meant as a holy sacrifice. Ultimately Christianity explains this as a symbol of God's holy sacrifice of his only son, Jesus, for the sake of humanity. The game portrays it more as a demonic act.

It would be similar to depicting circumcision as a crime against babies. In other words, it's clearly anti.

This is the first time I have heard of this game, so I looked up a gameplay video. It's a mixture of classic Zelda (dungeons only, no overworld) and Robotron that looks like a glorified flash game.

I don't know why this game even needs references to religion, but oh well...

Sex sells? Blasphemy sells. Believe it or not.

Lol your last sentance, I think circumcision against babies should be a crime

Unless it poses health risks not having it done.
