With the release of PS2 Classics onto the PlayStation Store recently there has speculation that Sony could end up making these downloads compatible with the PS Vita, just like PlayStation minis and (eventually) PSOne Classics.

Sadly it would seem that that’s not on Sony’s to-do list right now. PS3 titles won’t be coming over to the system anytime soon either, a Q&A on the PlayStation Blog reveals. One response to a question on possible PSP, PSOne, PS2 and PS3 ports reads: “Users can play supported digital PSP titles and supported minis. In regard to PSone classics titles, we will announce further details when they are ready. PlayStation does not have plans to make PS Vita compatible with PS3 or PS2 titles at this point.”

This news comes as a bit of a shame given that the Vita could easily handle games of the PS2′s power, and making them compatible would expand the system’s library immensely. And no one would scoff at seeing a few Vita versions of downloadable PS3 titles, either. With any luck something like this might be addressed a little later on in the system’s life.

They won't let themselves succeed, its as simple as that. Its a shame because i wanted to get a Vita, but its clear it will not become the system everyone envisioned when it was 1st announced.

I don't see why not. Vita offers a lot of other downloadable games anyway so what's stopping them?

Wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that only major games Vita seems to be getting are remasters of PS2 games. Hmmm...!

How can Vita play PS3 games? Unless it is a port or remote play I don't see how Vita can play PS3 games.

i thought vita could already play ps3 games via remote play? i swear i've seen KZ3 running on vita...

Remote play can work, but currently only through hacking. What you can actually do is very limited

And this is a shame, they could possibly even re-re-sell me some games, and certainly something like the Jak Collection should be avaliable on Vita, it only just came out, and it wouldn't be that much of a challenge to port it to the PSVita given they have already "done the impossible" and got it onto PS3

Also, Squeenix say that they are going to release FF X HD for PS3 and Vita, so if that ever happens, hopefully that might start a trend

If PS2 games are in the PSN store, then PS2 emulation for the PS3 is working fully now. Sony should simply allow us to be able to play our PS2 disc games.
