And i think if star fox was to have online it could be in inline with a more Battlefield approach, different classes like eng, bomber, medic and so on. They already have the figthers and tanks and whatever else they would like to add with some large environments and a sci-fi approach

Starfox oughta be all flying. Now, if they combined Republic Commando with Rogue Squadron for a battlefield kind of experience, where you can hop in Turbolasers and try to shoot X-Wings out of the sky? Holy crap! That would be incredible.

Although starfox has had some lame onfoot missions so far I think if nintendo get the right people to work on the game they can do it justice (and the onfoot should be for online only just to mix things up) and also the wii remote should make the 3rd person experience much more enjoyable as makes shooting much more fun, like it was made for it. As I said it depends on who nintendo lets develop the game

I mean that Star Wars kind of already has everything necessary to support that scenario, is all.

They're different kind of games, Rebel Strike's pacing was flawed but Rogue Leader was uniformly fantastic, and you're a soulless monster and I'm ringing your house with a line of salt to keep you inside of it.

Edit:

And on that point, most of Rogue Leader's missions weren't actually based on the movies. I think about 30% of them were lifted from the films.

Well, let's go through Rogue Leader's missions.

  • 1. Death Star - Based on the showdown of the Episode IV. A great opening. 8/10.
  • 2. Some space level - Don't see a real connection to any movie. Meh. 5/10.
  • 3. Battle of Hoth - Based on the opening of Episode V. Pretty good. 7/10.
  • 4. Maw - No connection. The section in space is especially boring, the part on the planet is also lame. 2/10.
  • 5. Star Destroyer - Sweet, but supershort. LIke 90 seconds. 7/10.
  • 6. Wrecked Star Destroyer - Was alright, no real highlights though. 6/10.
  • 7. Stealth mission - I despise stealth of pretty much any kind and this was added for the sake of having a stealth mission. 1/10.
  • 8. Bespin - This was Taloraan in the first Rogue Squadron. Well, at least they really look alike. Was okay. 6/10.
  • 9. Endor - Based on Episode VI. The real highlight of the game. 9/10.
  • 10. Death Star II - Episode VI again. Apparently they had to rush the game, because the framerate and collision detection inside of it is lacking. 6/10.
  • 11. Blast stuff - The first bonus level is just controlling a crosshair. 3/10.
  • 12. Asteroid Field - Fly through a samey stage and let the Millenium Falcon's auto-aim do the rest. 2/10.
  • 13. Triumph of the Empire - The first level of the game in reversed roles, but lacks its epicness. 6/10.
  • 14. Yavin - Darth Vader again, this time less exciting. 4/10.
  • 15. Endurance - Game lacks content, so let's stretch it. And yes, I beat this one with a gold medal in 200 minutes. 0/10.
Feel free to rate all these levels by yourself. The more original levels are clearly worse than those based on the movies, if you take the average for both of them. There's some stinkers in there and especially the five bonus levels don't hold up all too well.

I roughly agree with your placement of the levels (Endor being the cream of the crop), though the only ones I feel could have been dropped from the game with no complaint from me would be Maw and Asteroid Field.

Also I enjoyed endurance, though it could certainly have been a lot better... true most of the time I spent in  endurance was pulverising the waves with the cheat craft Buick.

I loved that stupid Buick. THose games knew how to do Easter Eggs, I tell you what.

I've been playing Star Wars: The Old Republic since it came out, and this game REALLY made me miss Rogue Leader. I've been talking about it for weeks now and always telling myself I'm going to pull it out of my old game box, but I haven't yet...

The "ship missions" (if one could call them that) in TOR suck balls. They're completely on-rails and horribly bland. I really really wish they went for something more along the lines of Rogue Leader, but oh well. I want to play that game again and see if I love it just as much as I used to.

I like Lair. That is my response to this thread.

I never played Lair. I never watched any videos of it. I saw a commercial and it looked slow.

Lair killed Factor 5.

Supposedly the aborted Superman game killed Factor 5, because wouldn't Sony have eaten the losses from Lair? Isn't that what publishers are supposed to do?

I agree that the main problem is that there is really nothing that compares to Rogue Leader. It sat in a sweet spot all its own between the ilk of Star Fox and other arcadey flight games and games that would qualify more as "flight sims," an itch that no other existing game can scratch.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Factor 5 were more skilled at squeezing juice from the Gamecube architecture than any other developer.

I would have loved for them to have done just one Wii game, just so they could demonstrate what the system was truly capable of.

I don't think we ever saw anything tap out the Wii the way Rogue Squadron did the 'Cube.

I often wonder what they would have done with a Rogue Squadron game on the Wii, not just graphically, but also what they would have done to work motion controls into the game, assuming they would have bothered to do so.

VGChartz

So... Sony killed Factor 5?

Well Factor 5 closed down less than 2 years after the release of Lair. So clearly the game didn't make enough money to keep them going. I suspect what happened is they were counting on the profit made from Lair to help carry them through the development of their next title. When the game was delayed and had bad controls shoe horned in and so got critically panned it ruined the chances of it keeping them in business.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.
