It's kind of up in the air at this point if the WiiU will be able to run Unreal Engine 4. If it does, then I'm sure it scales very well with what hardware it's running on.

I do recall awhile ago that Epic said they weren't even sure if next-gen consoles will even be powerful enough to handle Unreal Engine 4. I wonder just how much of a difference Unreal Engine 4 will look compared to the updated Unreal Engine 3.

Also, what picture is that from in the OP?

Being that developers are going to be looking for tools which operate on everything from an iPod Touch to a bleeding edge PC, I highly doubt that Epic would produce a game engine that requires bleeding edge hardware ... While they won't be able to run all of the effects, would need models and textures with lower detal, and would be displayed at a lower resolution at a lower frame-rate I bet the PS3 and XBox 360 will run the Unreal 4 engine easily; and being that the Wii U should be significantly more powerful than those systems, it will easily be able to handle it.

You have a point, as the needs of today are much different than what they were in the PS2/NGC/Xbox era. Engine backwards compatiblity will probably be essential considering what developers have to handle today. However, if you look at the current version of Unreal Engine 3 it can already do all of that. Why make Unreal Engine 4 backwards compatible when Unreal Engine 3 does all of that, and can also appearently scale to next-gen hardware?

It's kind of a mystery what the differences will be between UE3 and UE4.

I don't know why people tell me to get a life. I'm a gamer, I have lots of lives!

I'm not sure if the source is correct for the picture but it did indeed say it was from Unreal Engine 4. I seriously doubt it but it was a nice picture so I used it. I'm pretty sure it's from UE 3 though.

Realistically, being that Epic would (probably) be one of the first 3 outside companies to get any information about an unreleased system and they would (probably) port a new engine to any system that can handle it, the Wii U, PS4 and "XBox 720" probably all run the Unreal Engine 4; and, while the Wii U probably still has many NDAs that prevent discussion about specifics, I'm certain he is just implying that Sony and Microsoft's next systems run the Unreal 4 engine.

This for sure. He definitely means the X720.

If they want to run a game-tech demo, they'd better make a proper Unreal Tournament 2k1x.
UT3 was just bad and was several step backwards the beloved UT2k4.

We need more wall, lift and strafe jumps !

Extremely excited to see what they've got up their sleeves for UE4, it has to be good if they want to continue being the best and most popular engine licenser for another 7 years.

Actually, the full quote was "Including systems we can’t name yet".

So, it really sounds like they were talking about more than one system (PC) that was name-able.

Thank You! He did indeed mention that it would be running on systems that "we" can't name yet.

hm, we can name the WiiU obviously, except if rumors about name change are true!

it is probably Xboxxxx and PSy

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Cool.
