Forums - Sony - Final Fantasy 13-2 demonstrates some silly trends in RPGs nowadays

While I didn't particularly dislike the dialogue tree. I hope that is something they don't add to future Final Fantasies. Western RPGs can keep that, but my JRPGs need to stay story focused. I don't want to have to play the scene four times to get all of the info. Especially in a game that plays out like a mystery.

I actually like the battle system in FF13 and FF13-2. It feels good to take a creature, name it, and teach it all kinds of moves. I was a little pissed about the lack of a third character, but now, I don't really mind at all.

As for your other two points, I totally agree. I don't even know where the QTE's came in. I don't know of any WRPG's that use them. Mostly action games, from what I've played. They feel out of place, here. The first time I saw a QTE was in Shenmue for the Dreamcast. I thought they were pretty cool and innovative, then. If we only knew what was to come....

Worst of all are those conversation choices. There is no logical reason why we can't receive more than one answer to a specific question. Like you said, it only makes you feel like you're missing something. And I have yet to get a good answer from one of those situations. For example:

*Sees a time gate. Wants to know more about it.*
Choice 1: Were these created by man?
Choice 2: How does this work?
Choice 3: How long have these things been here?
Choice 4: Does this dress make me look fat?

*Chooses choice #1*
Serah: "So, I was just wondering....were these things created by people? They look too complex to occur naturally."
Noel: "Oh, I don't know."
Me: "Why the fuck was I even given the option to choose!?"

And most importantly, to dress it up!

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

HD remake of FFVI or FFVII would be a much better offering for JRPG fans than either: FFXIII and now FFXIII-2.

If they consider an HD remake of FFVII to be virtually impossible for them, they have no chance to ever do that for FFVI.

Not only that, most likely it will have different battle system, and things will be shifted around, to correct potiential "errors" in the franchise, mainly after Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Final Fantasy Last Order, and the Original Plot having number of different issues that somewhat conflict with each other. Hell I imagine Cloud will be like Final Fantasy AC Cloud, which would be a total annoyance.

Meh, screw AC Cloud, as long as they don't mess up Sephiroth, everyone else can go to hell in my view

But seriously, I agree with you. There has been so much BS thrown around in the FFVII compilation, that FFVII would no longer be the same game (story and gameplay wise). As for the changes in gameplay, coming from S-E I can expect anything from them, but if they (theoretically speaking) ever made a FFVII remake, one of the few things they shouldn't dare to touch has to be the Materia system. If they did, well then F' em >_>.
