I really don't understand why people are so against Kinect. As far as I know MS has not been forcing anyone to use Kinect. If you don't want to give verbal commands in ME3, I suggest you don't. And while your holding your tongue it would be nice if hold it when Kinect topics pop up. If you don't like it, fine, but stop bitching about it.

I dont think there so much against it as they are dissapointed by it.  MS did make it look alot better than it does now, overall. I MSs defense, thats what they do, thats what most companies do. If anyone thought for a second that the Kinect was going to be the way it was in NATAL stages then they just werent thinking right IMHO

Exactly. They showed us project Milo type interaction, and we get simple voice commands.

Well for whiney core gamers who just nag like old wives (lol)...kinect implementation like this is small yet contributes positively to gameplay.

For MS fans who cant stop taking their koolaid...MS did make it look better, intially than it acutally was no one is saying that this small contribution doesnt add to gameplay, most of us anyway and LOL to whoever thinks that Kinect games will make anyone's girlfriend a core gamer, not gonna happen. Didnt happen with Wii

I said "one step closer" in regards to your girlfriend being a gamer. And it did happen with the Wii.....I know many girls that own a Wii as their first ever gaming console.

I know many girls that have WIi as well, but keep it real, do any of them actual play the "core" games. Or do they just stick to the WIiFIts, just dances and 2d Mario?? Are any of them playing the CODs, GEs, Metroids, Zeldas, S&P, Muramasas, Red Steels, NMHs, Tatsunoko vs. Capcoms?? Are they?? Judging from the sales and receptions, im gonna say  no

Hey getting them playing video games in general is a step in the right direction. So then when they see you playing away theyll think your just having fun rather then being lazy, since they know firsthand.

in my experience, if they see me playing a Tvs.C or a GE or a COD theyll think its too complex for them and dont even bother. just like last gen and the gen before..etc. and I have my own gym set so no one thinks im lazy

Let me put it another way...if she knows what its like to play videogames, core or casual, when seeing you play shell think your just having fun rather then nag at you to do some chores, say that youd rather play videogames then have sex with her :P, etc.

Point is, and really isnt arguable, that being involved with videogames regardless put both of you on similar terms in regards to the subject.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to attempt to convince you of anything.

For once, you could simply say that I am right.

How about this one:

Your assumptions of gender-normative media consumption are unnecessarily limiting the scope of what you see as the inherent appeal of media in general and games in particular. The idea of women not enjoying sci-fi is outmoded, irrelevant, and incorrect. Women have been consuming a greater portion of speculative fiction for decades, and that's bleeding over into other media too.

Women. Love. Mass Effect.

There are certain sci-fi series (Mass Effect somewhat, Metroid moreso) that women just devour. It's a simple point of fact! My wife is an example of it, but for the sake of this discussion it's more important to look at the communities she participates in, which are over 90% female as a rule of thumb. The really serious fans, fans of the characters and the lore, are increasingly female.

I don't believe you. Well, I am willing to believe that Metroid is the #1 sci-fi video game series when it comes to appealing to women, but nothing beyond that.

When you say communities, do you mean message boards on the internet? If yes, you could also say that PlayStation fans absolutely love Sony's first party games while sales tell a different story. So if this is what you are talking about, then I find your argument not exactly convincing.

Also, the exclamation point after saying that it's a simple point of fact is suspicious. There's a good chance you are just fooling around.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to attempt to convince you of anything.

So you make a statement like that, but have no proof to back it up??? OK

WHy not say that from the beginning, that still doesnt mean that they will actually PLAY the games, BTW

I know a lot of women that are into Mass Effect especially because they can create a woman character and develop relationships. A lot of them had a relationship with Garrus which I find weird but anyway... Mass Effect is a game that appeals to women yeah.

Women are more and more into video gaming and not just dancing and cooking games. Almost every woman I know owns a Nintedo DS. Some of my ex girlfriends didn't like playing games like Resident Evil but they really liked to watch me playing and help in quests...

i loved voice command in the forza 4 menu and this was only very simple so i will love it in mass effect. i love voice commands, i've played a tom clancy game with that on the original xbox i believe it was rainbow six 3? i used it all the time!

"open flash and clear!" yeah i still remeber my most beloved command lol

123Kinect

123Kinect.com was among the few lucky ones to receive early access to the Mass Effect 3 demo, and while the demo is a bit short, it allowed me to fully test out all of the Kinect features that Mass Effect 3 entails. With Kinect you can control all the actions of your teammates and yourself with voice commands, and you can speak out dialog options.  This sounds good on paper, but the question remains: Is Mass Effect 3 really a “Better with Kinect game? Or is it just a gimmick that everyone will forget about soon after launch. I gave the demo a whirl and found out the answer!

Keeping pace

The obvious benefit of using voice to control the actions of teammates is that it keeps the pace in the game: You won’t have to go into menu’s anymore to select actions you want your teammates to perform and you won’t even have to go into menus anymore to select your own equipment! I tested this extensively and I must say, it all works fantastically! The speech recognition detects voices perfectly and commands can be spoken very quickly or even slurred together. During my playsession with the demo I went into the quick access dial only once, to check out the abilities I had at my disposal and what I had to shout at my Kinect for my teammates to use them. So the speed of the action is a definite benefit to using Kinect, but little did I know there is one more benefit, one that is a lot bigger!

You are the commander

You know how you’ve always played with “Commander” Sheppard? Well, with Mass Effect 3 and Kinect you’ll feel more in command than you’ve ever have in any other Mass Effect experience. Right from the start when I gave my team commands to equip the right ammo and hearing them acknowledge my orders I was getting this really great feeling: I really was their commander! Then, when the battle started I totally got into the zone: I was just ducking behind cover, too involved in shouting out commandos to even fire at my opponents! Liara: Warp! Garrus: Attack! Liara Follow me! I was feeling just great and really had this sense of being in control and really being the commander of my team. It was really too bad the demo was so short because I’ve never felt so involved and engrossed in a virtual battle.

Dialog options

And then there is the option to speak out dialog options to select them. At first when I started doing this it felt very weird and awkward. To be honest I didn’t really like speaking to my TV and having Sheppard repeat after me. But after a while I kinda got used to it, and even further down the line (on my second playthrough) it started to feel natural and engaging. So if you have a chance to play Mass Effect 3 with Kinect and it does feel a bit weird to speak out dialog options…just give it some time to grow on you, I’m sure you’ll start liking it after a while!

First Impression

So yeah, Mass Effect 3 is definitely and without a doubt a “Better with Kinect” game. Not only does it do a great job at keeping pace in battles (no more menus needed)  but it give you a feeling of being in control and really being a commander. It’s hard to explain but playing with voice recognition gave me such a rush that I don’t think I ever want to go back to non-Kinect supported Mass Effect! Kinect adds a whole new dimension to the already epic game and this little teaser of a demo made me hungry for so much more. Really can’t wait for it to come out, especially now that I know how awesome the Kinect support really is!

Great impressions... will try that tomorrow.

I really want to say one thing, then shepard say something else, can't even roleplay that i am shepard at all with that.

kinect will be awesome in 10 years or so, along with other motion control devices, but until then, standard controller or gtfo.

123kinect.com recommends game is better with kinect.

It didn't sound to bad until this: "And then there is the option to speak out dialog options to select them. ... having Sheppard repeat after me".

"I was just ducking behind cover, too involved in shouting out commandos to even fire at my opponents!"
Not my play style, I like to be in the action. Plan ahead, prepare, then follow my lead without further direction.

I guess it's worth a try when you have Kinect, but not compelling enough for me to spend $150 on.
