I know they get a lot of shit. But IGN has a lot of good writers. They need a new EIC though. Wish Hilary Goldstein never left :(

Hmm, dunno. But I do agree, there are a lot of terrible writers (and opinions) in the gaming industry.

I think there is just not much demand for them to be great writers. They can write terrible articles and get away with it, so editors or whoever is in charge let them keep doing it. If your readers are satisfied with poor articles, why change? I think that is the mentality.

Secondly, I think the talent pool might be a bit limited. Good writers probably focus on other venues, and I've also heard the pay isn't that well.

He's like if Drew Barrymore were a big star simply because no real stars existed. Sure he's better than the rest, but really, he's pretty lame and never been kissed.

Most articles I skim through as well, but some are worth while.

Being a Nintendo and PC gamer (mainly old school PC gamer) it is pretty much pointless to read EGM, Gamepro, Game Informer, etc.. While not all the games are docked because released on Wii they usually gave a pretty shitty curve for most of the even decent offerings. They also love to really dig on minor annoyances while letting even more major ones slide on HD games (should I mention Skyrim glitches or any other game that is released broken needing a patch day 1). CoD Wii games were pretty much ripped to part while the reviewer didn't care using the wiimote + nunchuck controls (even though I love the control scheme for FPS even with the wrist pains after playing for 2-3+ hours).

Basically the only site that I see review Nintendo games fair with the least amount of bias would be here. The news report for games is also pretty top notch on VGC. I got pumped for a few 3DS just by their reporting their play experience. Face it most of the journalist don't give a damn about Nintendo and probably would rather see them gone. Sometimes I wish Nintendo would just leave the planet with it's followers to a better planet.

Well granted I was only exposed to him for about 12 months with a free subscription to EGM.  Maybe he isn't that good but I was enjoying him during that time frame.  Basically, I'd flip to the back to read his article and then skim the rest.  I found EGM utter crap and I even tried to cancel the free subscription before it was out.  The last video game magazine that I thought was any good was Next Generation (besides Nintendo Power).

I don't agree because you have take into account that there are hundreds of gaming websites out there so obviously the average won't be that high quality as the writing talent is spread out.

But pro sites like IGN, Edge, Eurogamer and Gamespot, I think they have very professional writers.
