Do you agree with companies trying to rid used game sales?

Yes 51 18.15%

A little 34 12.10%

a lot but not completely 28 9.96%

Perhaps the solution to used games sales is forcing major retailers to give a portion of profits to the publishers.

From my understanding publishers are profiting from rentals. Which is why you're don't hear them complaining about that.

The moment that happens, the moment I become an iPhone gamer only. The only way I'm willing pay for a new game is if it costs $20. Companies better get smart and make fun games instead of focusing on what makes them expensive.

My local Gamestop sells alot of their used games at a higher price than the new copies at the Bestbuy across the street. As well I hate when they only want to buy your games for like a few bucks while they plan to sell it back for almost new. Its these things that I dont mind getting rid of used game stores.

A few month ago I wanted to invest some money to buy a new PC, I didnt have all the money so I decided to sell my old PC. I sold it to a friend of mine who was happy with the purchase, then I added some money from my pocket and bought a brand new PC. I know my friend is probably going to upgrade his PC in the near future as well, and so I am sure this same scenario happens every day for any purchase goods. I dont see why games should be any different. I dont sell my games, thats just me, but I have bought some used games, mostly GBA, N64 & supernes games that otherwise would be impossible to buy. Used game sells drive new game purchases.

Eeeeh. I say the second hand market is alright... Kinda. I believe that people should have the right to sell their used video games, and for others to buy them. But I do not AT ALL think it's right for a company like Gamestop to make tons of cash on this. It should be done on some website like ebay or something, where the money goes directly into the hands of the other duder, and the game directly into yours. The companies making money of it is just pure bullshit, plain and simple.

I think that the online passes and such are alright though, it's the developers right to add such things.

any economist will tell you the secondary market helps, it doesn't hurt

Spot on, like the rest of your post. I happen to be an economist (degree in economics/international management). Only an uneducated (or unintelligent) person would think that a secondary market is bad.

I have to say, it's pretty ironic how few people here appear to have any professional knowledge about economics. After all, this website's primary raison d'etre is SALES.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone in this thread besides me have a business degree? Do any of the moderators have any business education?

actually yes, but i feel the RRP needs to be reduced from £40 to £30 brand new. they cant re-sell the games and anyone who wants to play it HAS to buy it

For anyone who hasn't done so, go back and read AND understand Kasz216's post: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=4400636

Does it count to have founded an award winning company and being incharge of the economics of it? Even though we closed the business after just about a year of running it?

I see people comparing used games to used cars, which once again is very different. People take games back after the first day it comes out and cars get sold used years and years later. it does not affect the new car sales where used games affects new game sales
