You use your in house wifi connection. Coffee shops have their own wifi. Friends and family houses have their own wifi.

Seems the only time 3G will be useful is when your a passenger in a long car drive. There is also while taking a walk or on the bus but those 2 things require you to be at least a little aware of your surroundings.

so seriously, everyone who buys the 3G Vita must have mom and dad drive them an hour to see good ol Aunt Margaret for dinner every other weekend :P. Otherwise you just hijack the wifi wherever you are.

I'll be honest, I don't know anyone wants the 3G version. If its that integral for you to twitter or skype on the train to work then fair enough. I'd hold out for an inevitable 4G unit in the next few years if you're that desperate.

Then the only thing you may have to worry about is your data limits.

Save the extra $50, buy a wifi model, and just get the right phone with associated plans. You're paying the same extra fees (unless you root and rom said device) as the 3G model, but you'll actually get full functionality. Especially if you get a 4G LTE phone.

This is why I laughed at Sony for even offering a 3G model. Its so gimped and really a useless option. I don't see ANY reason for anyone to buy that model... unless they really are ignorant when it comes to available mobile technology and carrier offerings.

The only issue comes that outside the USA, 4G basically doesn't exist, so I am just left with lowly 3G anyway.... But I think the 3G is fundamentally the problem. From what I have read, they can't (or won't?) do multiplayer over 3G for the proper Vita games. So basically, the only thing you can do with 3G is to download games and do web browsing. Now if I want web browsing, I am going to use my phone despite its smaller screen, and if I want to download games, then I will just have to find a wi-fi hotspot since nearly all the games that I will want are going to be quite large (actually I am planning on getting most of my games phyically)

You guys miss the point. I'm picking up the 3G version for nothing on a plan through Vodafone. I'll get a free copy of Wipeout for doing so and pay (est.) $40/month for 2Gb of data (same as Galaxy Tab) and pay off the hardware.

Regardless of whether I use it or not, regardless if it costs more over time, I get a Vita free at launch with a free game.

Its not free.

You're paying $40 a month with a multi-year contract on the plan.

1 year = $480 for your "free" Vita.
2 years = $960 for your "free" Vita.
3 years = $1440 for your "free" Vita.

Sorry, but that's a horrible finance rate on something you really should just save up for and buy for $250 or $300 with a game.
