I am posting this on my windows 8 dev preview runningon acer w500 tablet and using the metro interface and flashless browser built in to metro. Works wonderful...

The fact that a tablet interface which is as functional as any tablet interface out there can drive that angry is somewhat strange to me.

Also, people seem to think that its still 2007 andthat evrything microsoft is mediocre. Hotmail has been rediculously imroved in the last 12 month. I havea Gmail account i used in the past and still use to log in to youtube and googe analytics but as an emal client, in 2012, hotmail is actually better.

Thats right. its a meanigless stat unless your main browser usage is to watch html5 numbers flipping and fish swimming in a bowl all day long. When using iphone on iOS5 and ie9 on a samsung focus, i can tell you that having the browser bar on the bottom makes the experience faster.

But good thing these benchmarks exist for people who decide to post arguments but dont have much knowledge on the matter or first hand experience...

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike WP7 at all. It is a nice OS and I prefer it over IOS anyday. I was just saying that saying it smokes competition or things like that is stupid. It is nowhere near that.

As for the benchmark, this is how a browser handles Jacascript. Even developers use it. It is the best way to compare for now. There is no other way around it just because it shows that your favourite platform is a little behind competition. Of course there are lots of other things that effects browser performance, but this is one of the most important things. Of course one would be dumb to buy a phone because of a benchmark.

My main problem with it is the interface. If they change it a little, or let people customize it it will be a very good platform for me. It is heading in the right direction though.

I can fully agree with this.

The speed tests in this vid are complete BS and meaningless benchmarks. But all 3 players are showing gimmicky things like this. The face unloc for galaxy nexus and any apple commercial ever made usually focus on trivial and meaningless things like this stupid challenge.

In my opinion, every phone being sold today is competent enough that it will have some qualities which a video like this could exploit and spin in that phones favor. Well maybe not blackberry once they get over BBM lol...

If you talk about functionality and immediateness and user-friendliness of the UI, I can believe you, but the quality of the search shouldn't change, as it's performed remotely, on Bing's servers, or clusters or distributed network, whatever it uses, although, if the client is on its turn equipped with a search engine to perform local searches on users local storage by itself, then yes, in this particular case local search performance may vary too from a client to another.

Notice also that in the particular case of map searches, performance may vary too from a country to another and even from a city to another: in my city Bing maps definitely suck, but I can say too that once my Navigon GPS, that is supposed to be specialized just on that job, misguided me through a supposed shortcut that actually was restricted traffic and so narrow I scratched both rear mirrors, so Bing is not alone.

Don't worry, I already understood we were focusing on different aspects and issues.   

BTW, while I am not an iPhone fan, and I just don't want another Windows on my devices because I like something different whenever I'm not forced by legacy, and while the right mix of features for my tastes is currently offered by a mid-low end Android phone (Alcatel One Touch 990), I just won't buy it either until it drops below 100 Euros WITHOUT having to subscribe some crappy rate plan that nullify any false saving on the current list price. I just don't like small screens for intensive uses, I'd use a smartphone for something different from a phone call only as a last resource when the proper device for it isn't available, so I really won't follow any latest trend, but I'll just buy one when it's mainstream enough.

Because MS went from Windows in the 90s' to finally the 7 that looks really nice, then now it's blocks of boxes and it pisses me off since I really thought MS got much better in making appealing looking UIs, when I'm looking at and toying with the Metro UI, I can't help but have this image in my head on how I'd improve it in so many ways to keep it simple, fluid, and still remain visually very appealing, but I'll bet they did it for copy right reason so they don't get sued, well, at least I don't need to use it for the desktop version of Windows 8 so I'm cool with that. Again, when I'm carrying a tablet outside, it's not about how well it works, because they all work well in their own ways, so it boils down to how it looks, when the competition in functionality are so close in between companies, I don't want blocks of shitty looking boxes on my screen, MS would embarrass the shit out of me if I have to carry one about, IMO of course.

Yes, Hotmail did improve, I go over my Mom's e-mail sometimes to help her out since I signed her up 10 years ago, but at it's best, it's just caught up and not the "better" that you claim it to be, and still sluggish compared to gmail in speed at least on a desktop level(gmail is not my main e-mail though, it's a filler e-mail that works really fast for me,) Hotmail doesn't stand out on it's own, so unless I use it as a filler account, I won't sign up for one again, not to mention I have an e-mail address that no mail provider can give me besides Mail.com because I got very lucky. It's literally the first initial of my first name then my lastname @mail.com and the mail app on Android from Mail.com is miles ahead of the Hotmail one. How the hell do you beat that?

The really sad part is my primary e-mail for gaming is a yahoo one because I've had it since the geocity days..... yeah..... that's right.... geocity......
