How does the marketplace hold up compared to the app store and Android market?

Answer: not well, quick google found that they both have well over 400,000 apps, whilst windows phone is on just below 60,000. I think I'll wait for it to catch up :P

There's a reason for that...about a 4-5 year reason

Windows phone is really awesome though. There are only a few apps that I can think of that it doesn't have (namely Skype which is odd considering MS owns Skype)

Well, that's pretty much my point :P It'll take a couple years for it to catch up, and by then it might not be  better tan anything else. It's mainly games that I play on smartphones which is a shame since windows phone is so fast, it would probably run them better than my iOS devices.

Unfair comparison, I recently brought a WP7, and I like it very much, but that wasn't really a comparison worth noting.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

If this not just propaganda marketing that's nice to see Microsoft doing something good once in a while, but Bing is a super bad engine...

lol what?
I just have to wipe the screen on my Android and can post on facebook. What a weird comparison video.
That's like comparing speedruns where one guy starts when he has control and the other by watching the intro.

I'd rather like to know if WP7 can keep up after some months of using. It's Windows, I bet it will become slower and slower in responding while Android and iOS keep smooth animations and input priorities. Just because WP7 has a nice start screen doesn't make it the most efficient mobile OS.

I must still be sleeping, but are you really arguing about how fast you can post to facebook on different phones?

And I have nothing better to do then be baffled by this while watching my win 7 laptop trying to fix itself. Fresh win7 install, after it got too slow to start anything, didn't help for more then a week. (That was fun installing 150+ critical updates with 15 reboots in between) Now it won't start at all with a corrupt registry. Seems the hdd is done after barely 8 months :(

It's the best OS out, but nobody wants a windows phone even after MS has poured $$$ into marketing, moneyhatting nokia, revamping windows mobile, etc. Secondly, with tablets growth, MS's OS revenue is going to be challenged.

When MS tries to put Windows anywhere else than where it already is, this is what springs to most people's mind:

@ ostro.

I haven't had to restart my phone in 59 days. As is my wifes HTC sensation 2 which has 756mb ram and 1.4ghz CPU restarts around 10 - 20 times a week. My phone has 512mb ram and a 1 GHz scorpian CPU.
Her phone has never beaten my phone. In fact my phone beats it more as her phone gets older. The virus protection software is another poor thing for a phone to have to run.

@ Bing sucks comment.

Please explain. Why?

Bing is I built into wp7 os. Now there is nothing on my wifes droix that comes close to its ease or speed. Please tell me if im missing something on it or a particular app to get. But from the first sceen on any wp7 device you press the hardware button search. Then have 4 options for Bing to do. Type your search, look at words to translate, listen to music to find what it is or speak what you want.
So pressing speak you say McDonald's, it thinks for about 2 seconds and brings you up the closest first to furtherest away. Giving you the telephone number, directions and map with no further clicking or searching.

the music thing on Bing made me delete crappy shazzam straight. No app needed to listen to music and find out what it is. And then you can download straight from Zune from the result Bing brings up fro listening.

No app needed for translating words. Bing does it with a simple 3 second look through the camera on your phone.

To be honest it has worked everytime. Being more accurate than any app and much more reliable than anything my wife has on her droid. She will ask me to search when we are out together because my phone is just quicker.
Is amazing how many people jump on the Bing is crap bandwagon, when on phones it blows google out the water with functionality and search requests. Its so handy out and about and reliable.

I hate to think how many apps IOS and droix need to get same functions but less smooth than all the I built wp7 options.
Many people really need to research Bing and wp7. I guarantee like the guy in the video. Using wp7 and Bing I could find anything faster and more accurate than any IOS phone or droid. Because it just flows and works all from 1 click. Its pure ease of use.

@ the games comment. Some of the Xbox live exclusive phone games are so much better than normal phone games. There more games and not passing time.

Unawareness rant over.

Nice side features don't change the fact that the heart of Bing, the search engine itself, is crappy.

About market share

http://www.bgr.com/2011/12/13/apple-and-google-dominate-smartphone-space-while-other-vendors-scramble/

A thing that one doesn't notice immediately is the Symbian ranking: Symbian used to be the market leader of both lower end cellphones and smartphones, but when Windows got its temporary smartphones leadership, Symbian was still the overall market leader, but it had already dropped to 4th place in  on smartphones only and kept on dropping in market share, and also in ranking as new competitors came: by the time WP7 was released, Symbian had already little relevance left not only on smartphones , but in the whole market, so there is little left that WP7 can pick up from its remains, and it had been very little anyway for years on higher end smartphoes even when Symbian was still leader in the lower end and overall.

@ alby wolf. But it finds anything I want to search for fast and reliable. Is that not what matters?

I read somewhere that bings marketshare is now above 30%. I'll try and find it in a bit.
