I'm not trusting them just yet, it's like they were downplaying the announcement, which isn't like Microsoft at all.

Regardless of who actually sold the most in 2011, I'm happy for both companies. I think we all know who made more money between the two. If it was an even break for M$ and Sony for the manufacturing costs for their respective consoles, M$ was making $50 more per console sale. Rounding at 14,000,000 consoles sold, M$ made $700,000,000 more on console sales in 2011. Now, I know that Sony did the price cut about half-way through the year or so, but I also hear that the PS3 costs significantly more to make then the 360. So doing some horrific rounding you get the picture. Who is the real winner?

Depends on what you mean by old. You could say thast the Wii is the oldest console as it uses older tech under the hood, which is why Ninty had to be first out of the gate for the next gen.

Unless the company says "sold through", sales almost always means shipped. I recall MS saying Kinect had sold through XX millions by...errrr...May was It? or was it end of financial year for them?

I would be surprised if VGC was 1.6 million out, and 66M shipped vs 64.4M sold to consumers is a pretty good correlation. VGC LTD shipped v sold correlation was pretty much on the money for 360 in the June-Sept Q. I am a tad leery of the 18 million Kinects vs the VGC LTD for Kinect Adventures. That's a rather wide gap for Kinect. I wouldn't think retailers would want that much headroom for Kinect, but maybe retailers in the US forward ordered a lot to make sure they weren't short, or maybe retailers in Europe over estimated demand. Or maybe VGC has undertracked Kinect by about 1 million.

This has been an interesting year for PS3 vs 360 sales. I wonder if 2012 will be the same, relatively. It certainly seems like PS3 will never catch 360 in 360's lifetime.

Nobody is saying 1.6m out, more like 800k, which is in line with previous years for stock on shelves for 360. 1.6m is waaay higher than normal.

stop spouting the same thing over and over again, the only time it was less than 1M was last year at your 800k suggestion which was attributed to extreme shortages, that where what forum posters on this site from the US witnessed and articles online mentioning, obviously we dont have any testimonials like that this year.  Being from the US myself this holiday season didnt look anywhere near as supplied constrained as last year if anything the stock was more than ive seen, that goes for both ps3 and X-box
