We do have a limit on these, it was fine back when it was just me doing one every few months, but I agree it's out of hand now. The limit is 3 at any one time, but I'll try and knock that down if I can because it is becoming a cheap way for members to gain points and whatever.

I put my User Torny in the gaming forum because A) that's where it'll get the most notice and B) it's like, the one torny/game thread that sort of has any actual relevence here.

Seece, your 'greatest user' threads are cluttering the forum. What is the need for so many threads when you could just have one thread where people submit their top 20 favourite users to you via pm, and then you do a countdown thread and then a discussion thread running alongside the countdown one? Rather than make possibly hundreds of different threads, like your doing...

They don't clutter, they get locked once they're done with (or should be) and this is how we've done it for years, certainly not gonna take your advice on how to do them. I'm not making 'hundreds' either.

If you want to look at unnecessary, look no further than your own.

Just cos its been done like that for a while, doesnt mean its not wrong, seece. My idea is better. Anyway, the only pointless threads on this forum imo are michael-8's 2 elimination games and your 'greatest user' ones.

No it isn't better, it's a lot worse, and your opinion really isn't going to count for anything given you're so new and obviously have no clue when you make stupid games such as an animal elimination. You clearly have no clue.

Actually I only had one main one. I was interested in it and so were others. From what I ass able to tell we had some fun and some drams with it. Find me my other elimination game that I had.

Just because you did not enjoy it does not mean others did not want it.

I do agree only one at a time should be it.

The only thing I did not do was ask them to be locked, but the extra sub threads were just voting for which movies people wanted. So they were not meant to last long.

Don't you have some candy to steal from an unsuspecting child? :-p

No, don't like eating food others have touched. I must say I'm surprised you remember what children are spurge

The forum index is already congested with unnecessary amounts of sub-forums. Frankly, I think we only need about four sub-forums altogether, but that's a topic for another day.

What the OP seems to be addressing overall is a lack of quality control on the forums, something which I have discussed extensively with others. First, let's make a distinction. Seece's threads are justified because they follow a site tradition which has been going on for years. They don't take up space on the forums because by the end of each day, they're locked. No unnecessary bumps, quotes, or point-grabbing.

Now, let's discuss the issue of posting quality. If you are making threads or posting solely for the purpose of getting points, badges, or the highest possible post count, you are spamming and breaking the rules. If you're obsessed with achievements, buy a 360. If you're obsessed with numbers in general, try majoring in Accounting. Regardless, you should post because you want to discuss something you're interested in with like-minded people. Since coming back, I have tried to encourage good posting and discussion. If you would like to create a thread but don't know what to base it on (besides some kind of forum game), look at what other members are making. VGC has plenty of great members who make mature, intelligent threads.

I will see if I can't discuss this issue further with the rest of the staff. In the mean time, I hope this explanation will suffice.

No need to get personal, seece. Besides, im sure if there was a referendum the vast majority of users (and mods) would choose my idea over yours. Also, my animal elimination was a great idea according to the vast majority of posters, only you and Machina didnt like it. Just because something isnt your cup of tea doesnt mean it isnt a good idea, seece.

MH said it well above including reducing the sub forums

i would add that i think it should go down from 3 at a time though, that they should be only game related barring the user awards, and that rules should be edited if the thread takes a long time to come to a conclusion

Given that's how we've done it for years, and noone has complained about the method, you're just totally assuming everyone would love your idea (funnily enough eh)

And if you think an animal elimination game with hundreds of animals is a good idea then that just further cheapens your opinion, it isn't, it's spam personified and just what this forum doesn't need.

@seece, well, it's normative so we'll never know. Anyway, my animals thread was handled badly by me, but the idea itself was great IMO. However, my current elimination is being handled well. Michael's elimination games were good ideas also, but they were handled terribly (e.g. By allowing people to vote every 3 hours), and a mod should've intervened because that thread became a complete joke. Anyway, I'm done with this thread, I've already got what I came for.. 15 gamrpoints (I'm joking, of course!)

@machina, great, there should definately be stricter rules about elimination games, Michaels 2 elimination threads shouldnt have gone as far as they did. But does this mean that my upcoming insect elimination game is cancelled?

I agree, there are too many of these threads, and also too many threads where the author changes the title. I want a way to filter them out.

There is an option. Do not be so sensitive bud.

Unfortunately making yourself obvlivious to the problem doesn't solve said problems addressed in this thread.

These sorts of poll threads, and title abuse threads need to be pushed into separate forums so people can filter them out.
