Drive is an amazing oddball to me.  Like Hurt Locker, everything about this movie is top-notch even though I can't stand the violence in this movie.  When you see critics throw out flashy words like "arthouse violence" it just mean a disgusting amount of gore (that I argue was unneeded).  If you're easily nauseated by that stuff don't bother watching.  If you're fine with that, prepare to enjoy Drive and the new 'jacket king' (sorry Alan Wake).

That is amazing that this movie was so popular! Do you think it will win any awards this year?

The Hurt Locker was pretty good, I like when they were trapped by the Sniper the best.

After seeing Drive in theaters, I said there's no way it can't make the Oscars Best Picture noms unless if they bump the total down to 5.   Oscar Nominations I predict:  Directing, Picture, Possibly Adapted Screenplay, Possibly Best Acting, Best Supporting Acting, and...I don't know if they soundtrack so that might be it.  Winning is usually up in the air until the year's out and film critics start talking about their best films of the year in newspapers.  The Descendants looks most likely in my eyes only because the director + screenwriter hasn't done anything since Sideways (Best Picture winner a few years back)

I know some on internet don't care for Hurt Locker but I thought it was amazing.  I just hated that grotesque part involving the kid.

1. Harry Potter: Book 7 - Part 2 (Epic finale)
2. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Just amazing)
3. Pirates 4 (I love me some Johnny)
4. Puss in Boots (I am a huge fan of the Shrek movies. I found Puss to be lovable as usual and Humpty Dumpty is a pleasant surprise. Also, I laughed throughout the whole movie)
5. Fast Five (It surprised me in every way. I just really liked it)

Honorable mentions to Super 8, Rango, Immortals, Source Code, etc.

I'm really bad at pinpointing one movie XD

I am glad you picked Rango! I really enjoyed that movie.

I just watch M:I 4 in imax. OMFG imax is leaps and beyond better than 3d its the best movie experience ever. Anyways the movie dust have some clever action scenes and unexpectedly good comedy, however the plot was your typical overused spy/espionage story.

Rango

and Red, White and Blue

Both of those were big surprises for different reasons

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. Has to be either Captain America or Thor. I can't wait to see MI 4!

I would say I saw about 70% of the films on that list, and not one of them was of quality. The other ones on there I pretty much know for a fact that I would not like either.

I guess I will have to choose Xmen First Class ... not because it is a good movie, but because it was not the complete and utter disaster that I was expecting it to be. I would consider watching the movie again (would not pay to see it again, but if it shows up on netflix I just may watch it).

What a wasted year for film this was though ... just a bunch of sequels, bland superhero movies, and wastes of great liscenses (Rise of Planet).

I would also say that Source Code was not all that bad either. Not something I would pay to see again, but it was somewhat memorable.

At least The Hobbit is coming now so I finally have something to look forward to. I can't remember the last time I was excited about seeing a movie. Based on the trailer, it looks like it is turning out just as I had hoped (same style as LOTR films). I don't really see them screwing it up.

Suprisingly real steel! It brought me back to the good old movies a newer version of rocky and i loved it!

But next year!

Dark knight rises

Avengers!

Wrath of the titans!

The Amazing Spiderman!

Etan

Maybe im the wrong age/pretentious bracket, but im always more excited to see the big festival films, and award season competitors at the end of each year.

Examples - Shame, Talk About Kevin, Melancholia, The Artist.

Did anyone mention Tree of Life? Anyone see any Korean films? The Yellow Sea for eg.?
